supposedly an M4A1 Sherman..BUT.......dry pin metal tracks (different to the usual rubber blocked tracks of an M4)suggest a Canadian made "Grizzly" Sherman. -- Last edit: 2010-05-28 23:15:31 |

Probably the same in Episode 6 "Peleliu Airfield" 1 And in Episode 7 "Peleliu Hills" 2 |

In Episode 9 "Okinawa". I suppose it will be the same with some extra 'gadgets' added |

As seen in Band of Brothers perhaps? |

Unlikely to be the very same tank, since Band of Brothers was filmed in the UK while The Pacific was filmed in Australia and the USA. -- Last edit: 2010-06-15 16:52:15 |

No, Grizzly was an equivalent of M4A1 with cast hull, while this is US M4 with welded hull!... Maybe the tracks are Canadian only. I don't know what's the manufacturer of M4 - Alco? |

Alco, GM, Chrysler and FIsher all made Shermans. This could be an M4A2, as used by Marines in the Pacific. |

MIS-ID this can't be an A1 Grizzly as it has welded hall not cast iron one http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/manufacturer/m4a1mlw/grizzly.html |

so going by the good old Sherman guide http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/index.html we can exclude A1 as it's welded we can exclude A4 as it's the standard chassis those bolts on the front are present only on the original Shermans according to that guide and looks to have the 75 mm gun so pick a producer This variant was manufactured by Baldwin LW, Pressed Steel Car, ALCO and Pullman Standard (6748 units produced). http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/sherman_types/m4/m4.html a .... M4 "Sherman" -- Last edit: 2017-02-12 15:34:12 |

@mike - you might as well pick the make - you're probably ahead of most folk here. |

Three M4A3 Sherman reproduction tanks were constructed for the Movie industry on the chassis of M3 Grant / Lee tanks - they were used in the making of "Windtalkers" and 'The Pacific' TV series, amongst others Two of those replicas (reproductions?) are now at the National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois, Wyoming with the third at the Egholm museum, Kirke Hyllinge (Denmark) -- Last edit: 2021-12-31 06:53:51 |

It's an M3A3 Grant that came from Australia. They built up a prop M4A2 on the hull that they had. It's the same tank in all the episodes, just with different stuff on it to make it appear different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AQdxOtrn9Y |
