I found this ad today - http://www.prewarcar.com/classifieds/ad52158-2.html - for this 1914 Renault Type ED Open Drive Landaulet, body by Laclaverie et Gaches, previously owned by MGM Studios and featured in the movie The Time Machine, and later owned by Phil Hill. It corrects the previous indetification of 1912 Type CB. |

That link is dead but it did find a new owner: http://www.dondini.de/16.html ![]() ![]() ![]() "The car has been in the US for many many years, then went to Scotland and finally came to Germany. It seems to be in original condition in many aspects, but of course paint, upholstery and the linnen top have been changed since 1914. Apparently the car has been the property of Metro Goldwyn Mayer for many many years. You will see it in films such as Mata Hari (1931) or The Time Machine (1960). It was sold to a privateer in 1969 who had it restored, serviced and maintained by Phil Hill, the American F1 champion of 1961." If in Mata Hari it must be this one: /vehicle_339088-Renault-12CV-Coupe-Landaulet-Type-DG-1914.html |

These Link to "www.prewarcar.com" and http://www.prewarcar.com/images/Reanault_ED_full_side.jpg are probably the same car. ST 22 plate was an Inverness issue in a series from Dec 1903 to Dec 1938 and does seem to have been originally issued in 1904, although with the info elsewhere does not seem date-significant for this car; nothing on plate check sites. chico's 2nd thumb definitely looks somewhere Scottish for architecture, but not specific enough to try a guess. Also this extensive selection - http://www.flickr.com/photos/bentleymurray/ -- Last edit: 2014-03-29 01:43:57 |
