This car is still around, owned by a collector in Palm Springs, CA. According to an article years ago in Cars and Parts magazine, it was owned by the studio for a long time and also appears in the movie "Mildred Pierce" (I think it's shown briefly from the rear in a restaurant parking lot). |

http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z14222/Buick-Series-40-Special.aspx This Buick appeared in many movies made in the 1940s and can be spotted in later films as well. One of its last appearances was in the 1968 movie, 'Cool Hand Luke' - yes, this is the wagon that Luke/Paul Newman 'dies' in at the end of the film. The Estate Wagon was sold at a Warner Bros. property auction in 1969, by which time it had logged only 28,000 miles. It was subsequently 'sympathetically restored' and has been proudly held by the present, fourth, owner since 1995. |

vilero Thank you for your post. Great pics, and interesting info. I came to this website to look for this specific car, because I'm watching Cool Hand Luke on Netflix and was wondering what kind of car this was. |
