This car is not based on Typ AB9 platform. It's a medium car based on Ford Escort platform in the time of Autolatina. Like VW Logus. Look: www.bcws.com.br/carros/outros/fracassos/pointer-m.jpg "Logus and Pointer, Fords of Volkswagen After the failure of Apollo, Autolatina was far away and it really developed different versions from Escort for VW. Logus, of three volumes and two doors, arrived at the market in March of 1993; Pointer, your version hatchback with five doors, it was presented to the press at the end of the year, but only sold in following August. The drawing of both exquisite era, tends Pointer been pointed by the president of the German head office, Ferdinand Piëch, like most beautiful VW of the world. They contributed the widest lights of the hatch, with units of long reach incorporated. But, besides production problems, as pieces printed that they were not fit, those models faced other course incidents. In Logus the suspension didn't have the expected firmness for the customers VW, the AP 1,6 and 1,8 engines were weak for your weight and the gear used long relationships, mining the acting. The mark was not long to shorten your diferencial in excessive 14%, turning it noisy without solving the potency lack. It was easy to notice that the 2,0 engine would improve everything--it was offered in 1994, still with carburetor, passing the multipoint injection soon. The result was of the best: good acting in any regime and maxim of 192 km/h, the more discharge in a VW until then. Wheels of 14 pol helped in the style and in the stability. With Pointer the situation was different. VW already insisted on the short gear when presenting him, in October of 1993, in the versions GL 1,8 and 2,0 (both injection), besides sporting GTi 2,0. This totally had very firm springs and gear relationships inadequate, to the point of to reach the limit of turns of the motor in fifth gear, limiting the maximum speed. Even after the correction of the problem--surprising that the engineering he has not detected before--, GTi continued less fast than quiet Logus 2,0. Slain by the closing of Autolatina, the two lasted a little: Pointer left production in 1996 and Logus in 1997--in spite of the elegance of the version Wolfsburg Edition, with lights of Pointer and sophisticated finish." To confuse stu a bit more: There was a Brazilian made VW 1500, which was a Ford (Corcel?) before, but originally based on a British Sunbeam/Hillman/Humber etc. Avenger. ![]() Oooops, sorry (hopefully Gomselmash doesn't see my fault): it was an Argentinian car, not Brazilian: /vehicle_299077-Volkswagen-1500.html -- Last edit: 2010-10-01 15:37:16 |

The VW Gol in other markets, like mexican for example, received the name Pointer. But another car, made by Autolatina (Ford and VW association) received the same name in Brazil: Pointer. A completely different car... |

Vulgarly speaking, what is said, is that in times of Autolatina, the Pointer was done on the Ford Escort. And it is true, has box Ford Escort and VW engine (I think the AP does not remember). |
