I do know that the DRL we have here are half bright as normal headlight uses, but I don't know what brightness setting sold in Europe  |

I even don't know, when DRL became mandatory in Germany and in other European (all? EU?) countries. It is mandatory actually. But this rule goes only for new cars. Which light the DRL uses here in the US varies by the manufacturer and even the model. They can use high-intensity parking lamps like on the 2003+ Chevrolet Express, a stand-alone DRL lamp like on the 1999+ Chevrolet Silverado, They can be reduced-intensity high beams like on the 1996+ Chevrolet Cavalier, reduced-intensity low beams like on the 1996+ Chevrolet Astro and they can be regular intensity low beam headlights like on the 1996-2002 Chevrolet Express (as seen here). Some cars use automatic headlamps as DRLs, like the 1997+ Chevrolet Malibu The only regulation is limiting the light output of DRLs (but low beam headlights fall within the regulation.) |
