"Ferrari 0102 E was originally a 212 Touring barchetta, it was rebodied as a Burano and driven by John Fitch and Salani in the 1954 Mille Miglia as car number 555 both in the film and the actual event. It survives today in a private collection." - http://www.velocetoday.com/lifestyle/lifestyle_56.php . |

Yes, dsl is correct. This is a 212 Export Touring Barchetta originally, then rebodied as a Burano. I drove this car several times in 1981 while working for the renowned vintage Ferrari/exotic car dealer, Ed Waterman, after we acquired it from Joe Marchetti. I talked to Henry Hathaway, the Director of The Racers and he told me they had it rebodied because it didn't look "Ferrari enough." It came in a multiple car trade/swap and believe it was on the books for around $100K in 1981. It did not have the side exhaust, so apparently it was modified again during or after the movie. |
