This afternoon I was very surprised, when I saw a truck loaded with three new Dodge Sprinter-chassis. I didn't know, that they were available in Europe. They were just naked chassis with the driver's house, incl.frontscreen, doors and a bit of the roof, but open after the front seats, no back panel, covered with plastic. All these three chassis had definetely the Dodge- and not the Mercedes-nose. I was driving too fast to see the plate of the truck. It was from Hungary or Lithuania. It was on the Autobahn A2, direction East to West, not coming from North-West-Germany (where the harbours are, where US-import-cars were loaded off). |

Sounds as if they were going to have specialist bodywork added by a European company, for sale in the US. Wikipedia says that the Sprinter is made in Düsseldorf; could they have been travelling from there? That is; I wonder if they were fully assembled by Mercedes-Benz in Düsseldorf, despite being badged as Dodges. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_Sprinter -- Last edit: 2008-04-17 21:17:59 |

This had made me wondering, it was the direction to Düsseldorf, coming from the East. It's hard to believe, that the shall be completely assembled in Düsseldorf, because why they should make only the chassis -this is the work, they make in the Mercedes-factory- then bring the chassis away and, still in naked condition, back to the factory? |

Today again! I've passed on the A2, direction East to West, a truck, loaded with Dodge Sprinter-chassis, same like at my first posting. I've seen, that the truck had Polish plates (WE...) and that it belonged to the Swedish/Norwegian company "Wallenius & Wilhelmsen", as I know, the biggest transportation-company for cars. So perhaps the US-made Sprinter's were loaded off in a Polish harbour and then brought to the West by the truck. Not real logical, but possible. ![]() -- Last edit: 2008-07-09 21:32:40 |

For sure the previous Dodge Sprinter was officially marketed in Poland (I will never forget its TV advert), but I don't know whether they are still available, rare on the streets. This one of the second gen. is made in USA, how it was in the past I'm not sure. -- Last edit: 2008-07-09 22:18:34 |

Today again. I saw a Polish truck with Dodge Sprinter-chassis as load. @Weasel, @fck: the truck had "SBS" on the plate. |

"SBS" is from somewheree in Śląsk - Silesia, so not at the coast. |
