The origin for this car and other north american Plymouth Horizons listed on this site isn't France, although it's based on the French Chrysler/Simca Horizon, the North American models were assembled in the US just like the it's twin, the Dodge Omni: /vehicle_139105-Dodge-Omni-024-1980.html Curiously, the Horizon TC3 and Omni O24 are listed as "Origin: US" while the 4 door models aren't. If the origin for this car is France, then the origin for it's GM competitor, the Chevrolet Chevette, should be UK or Brazil as it is based on the Vauxhall Chevette that was built one year earlier than the US version... |

I would say "Orign USA" would be correct. The Plymouth Horizon/Dodge Omni were produced in the U.S., not only assembled. A plenty of parts are different (front, back, interior, perhaps the engines, too), so it has not much in common with the French Simca/Talbot Horizon. -- Last edit: 2007-11-19 10:03:53 |

The 4-door were designed/conceived by Chrysler France. The TC3/024 not. Even if indeed some parts are different, it still has French roots. As always, difficult subject that "origin". -- Last edit: 2007-11-19 12:49:39 |

It's similar with the Golf I/Rabbit. During the production-time in the U.S.-factory there were so many changes, compared with the European Golf, that you cannot say any more, that's a German car. |

Co-designed by Chrysler UK (frm. Rootes) and Chrysler France (frm. Simca), actually - e.g. styling is by Roy Axe's Whitley design studio (yes, there was "styling" done for the car!) |

Then, how about the Chevette? In my opinion, unless it's about final assembly (which is sometimes hard to tell as the same models are often assembled in many places at the same time) origins shouldn't even be mentionned as in the actual global market (and even 30 years ago), cars originate from everywhere. In my eighties Jeeps (designed by Renault), there are parts from France, Korea, Japan, US and other places! On this site, they are considered as having US origins.... |
