The Australian version were offered in 3 engine sizes 2000cc 4 cylinder as well as 2 big 6 cylinder Straight 6s from the Ford Falcon the 200ci 3300cc and bigger 250ci 4100 cc straight 6 The 6s were first put in the MK3 (Called TC in Australia) to compete with the 6 cylinder Holden Torana which was winning races with the GTR XU1 at Bathurst - there was a proposal to race a Cortina at Bathurst (they had raced Lotus Cortinas in the 60s) but it never got of the ground A later player to 6 cylinder scene was Chrysler 180/2000 4 door sedan was converted also to a 6 in 1976-1978 215 3300cc and a 245 a 4.3 6 cylinder The Cars were locally assembled and some were exported to Pacific and here in New Zealand. I remember the local Australian embassy here in Wellington New Zealand had 6 cylinder wagon - One of identfication points of Aussie versions were the big bumpers In NZ here we assembled the British spec ones |
