Rear-hinged bonnet, grill lower edge shape and bonnet side strips - 1939 Hillman Minx Mk1 I believe. Looking for more details to confirm but 75% certain. |

Looks odd with that mesh grille. It could be a Hillman - obviously somethin with a small sidevalve four in it! |

Confirmed Utility (Tilly) version Hillman Minx Phase I, made also as a flatbed and pick-up. Without a view of the rear I would say this is the type of same vehicle. http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/photos-tatton0605/hillman_tilly_3.htm -- Last edit: 2007-03-07 12:34:10 |

Hillman utility was derived from the 1939 HillmAn Minx saloon, fitted with 1185cc engine, there were 6 different models, all differing in minor detail, the mesh grille and sides to bonnet were added by request of the military as an economy measure in lieu of the civillian counterparts civillian pattern grille..only body variants of this vehicle were the canvas back pick up (as in pic) and a few van versions...bit of a pig to restore as the Hillman Tilly does not have box chassis, its of monocoque construction, and the expense involved in restoring a bad one means today there are not many of the Hillman versions about.most of these Utilities were sold to Malta..where most of them are coming from nowadays into the hands of collectors..although the Maltese government is now attempting to block any from coming out of the country..however some have been coming from Malta via Holland..as apparently there is some sort of loophole which allows it. |
