These were made by a number of different companies in WWII, the military numbers used were M3 and M5 depending on size I think. |

This is the WWII Autocar M2, first I believe on the site. |

I believe you're correct on this one : http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/w/41whArmytank_KI.jpg |

The link from "hiergehts" shows the very similar White. |

It is a M2 by short body, and not a A1 by fender mounted headlights, but the Autocar, Diamond, T and White are all the same. Parts will intercahnge between them. Serial numbers on frame, size, and style, and date plates are the only differances. Check my webpage www.junk-halftracks.com |

This is the Autocar M2 and not the White or Diamond T. They are not the same, they are "almost" identical but this is clearly the Autocar. |

Jim, could you give us some information what the differences are? I couldn't tell so far but would love to know, so would Frank, I guess. |

This is a real pearl in Military Vehicles. Most Armour enthusiasts are not aware of the differences. For the M2 only! FIRST, There is a triangular bracket supporting the rear shelf on each side to the rear and above the tracks. The size of the bracket is approximately a 10 inch triangle. On the White/Diamond T this is a solid triangular plate. On the Autocar this is a strap of metal and not a solid piece plate, but rather an open style. The side view of the one I called "Autocar M2" clearly shows this open style bracket. It is the only one I have seen on the site. SECOND and only in original condition, the Registration numbers were painted differently on the hood sides. Autocar painted USA above the numbers in a "Stacked" style. White painted theirs all on a single line. The pic in question looks old enough to be original and has the Autocar Stacked numbers. I have studied/played with military vehicles for 35 yrs and never seen this not to apply to the M2 halftrack. The M3 variety is all the same as far as I know. Jim |

Thanks a lot, Jim. Very interesting details. I will keep my eyes open when the next M2 turns up. |

Why all Autocar M2 halftracks are listed with military armored class while White M2 halftracks are generally presented as tracked vehicles on the site? What makes this a Diamond T: /vehicle_570912-Diamond-T-M3-Halftrack-1942.html ? Or is it, as Ingo once answered to me, "just not consistent"? |
