what about its sound?? Does anybody know what should it be? For example sound of Porsche was pretty accurate, so this might help. I think, that Lightning is Dodge Viper. -- Last edit: 2006-06-22 00:58:19 |

Yea, I could buy Lightning being a Charger. Its not that far of a streatch. If you really wanted to give this car a real car assignment, the NASCAR Charger is the way to go I suppose. His sponsers, Rust-Eze, were a couple of Dodge vehicles, and with NASCAR sponsers, they usually support a brand of vehicle they sponser on. -- Last edit: 2006-07-04 07:27:27 |

Cannot be a Viper GTS I guess, Lightning has a rear lateral glass, the Viper doesn't. |

Pixar design, c'est pas une marque existante. |
SnotRodFanatic ◊ 2007-01-04 00:29 |
Lightning McQueen is not a Dodge Charger. Read this: Unlike the other characters, Lightning is no car in particular. He does, however, have characteristic of a variety of sports cars. His headlights are just stickers and he has many sponsor decals on his sides, both similarities to NASCAR cars. Pixar was shown a Corvette by GM, which influenced his design. His overall profile was inspired by the Ford GT40. His tail resembles that of a Dodge Viper, while the tail lenses and roof are consistent with a Ford Mustang. The full size tour car is based on a 3rd Generation Chevrolet Corvette. His custom two-tone paint and tires are from a 1st Generation Chevrolet Corvette. Overall, his appearance is a hybrid between a stock car and various other sports cars, but tilted slightly towards the stock car style. He can be considered an overall generic race car. Also, due to the resemblence of the twins Mia and Tia (when they painted themselves in his colors), he has somewhat of a Mazda-inspired design, since the girls are Miata's, the only Mazda car to resemble a Miata was the RX-7, particularly the Savannah model. |

If you watch the bonus features on the dvd it tells you that Lightning is not based on any one car. -- Last edit: 2007-01-30 19:45:55 |

thanks for all the pics for me this car will be always something special...in fact i teach about cars to part of my family with this movie... |
◊ 2007-04-30 22:16 |
The Piston Cup is based on the NASCAR Nextel Cup, and no Viper ever raced in NASCAR. He can't be a Corvette, a Camaro or a Mustang for the same reason. I think McQueen is just a generic race-car, some mix of various cars. |

I agree with the above comments of antp, SnotRodFanatic, lambolover253, and ced381. This should definitely not be identified as "Dodge Charger NASCAR", it should be identified as "Made for Movie" (or if you just have to have a brand "Pixar"). Disney’s own official website declines to identify Lightning McQueen except as “racecar”, http://adisney.go.com/disneyvideos/animatedfilms/cars/main.html while at the same time clearly identifying other characters make, model and year. MSN Autos supports this, http://autos.msn.com/advice/article.aspx?contentid=4024001 so does Yahoo! Answers, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061120005057AAlpHyI so does howstuffworks.com, http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/how-cars-works4.htm and even though it is not always as trust-worthy, so does Wikipedia. The above comments of landrover1 and nickman912 are the only place I have ever heard of Lightning being a Charger. |

McQueen is definitely a combination of styles, but if you watch the scene where Lightning and Sally are driving on the winding road he has some Stingray in him, especially his rear end. |

Can someone please change the name of this car to "Made For Movie"? If it were a Dodge, it would have the iconic "crosshair" grille. |

I'm focusing on the name McQueen and the vehicle's Mustang-like roof line and overall long hood / short deck body style to say there's a lot of Mustang in this car. After all, Steve McQueen drove a Mustang in "Bullitt"! ![]() |

He is not made for the movie. He's a Chevy Monte Carlo. |
◊ 2009-12-20 08:20 |
This car does not look anything like a monte carlo, The artist that designed it said it was not a monte carlo, read the comment on the page before you post -- Last edit: 2009-12-20 08:40:12 |

Calm down there young man. tonka's comment was in reference to the fact that you said that it was a Chevrolet Monte Carlo when it has been made obvious numerous times in the previous posts that the car was not based on any real car in particular. Even Disney says this. So there's no need for anybody to say comments such as "I think it might be a (insert brand and model)" when numerous sources confirm that this is not based on a singular real-life car. |
◊ 2010-01-08 07:25 |
First of all I didn't "Create any facts" nor is my comment antagonizing or meant to make anyone feel stupid. The artist has stated that Lightning McQueen is not based on a real car, but has characteristics of several cars (none of them a Monte Carlo though and I stick with my original statement there are NO similarities between Lightning McQueen and a Monte Carlo, except the number of doors) I also never said he looked like a Charger, I told you to read the previous comments which said that it is not based on any real car. To which YOU responded, "Well then it needs to be changed from Made for Movie to Dodge Charger" but you deleted said post. |

You were right tonkaTRACKER it might be a Dodge Charger NASCAR. His mouth is the grill or grille. I'm only 12 almost 13. -- Last edit: 2010-01-22 03:22:26 |

thats a dodge viper!! or atleast based on a dodge viper, 100% sure |
Lantzs09 ◊ 2010-11-14 01:42 |
I'd wish you'd the bonus features. and it will tell you he's based on nothing. |
◊ 2010-12-21 08:32 |
Bottom, 3rd from left, brownish color, looks like a Taurus, as does the blue one second from left 1 row up. |
◊ 2011-01-27 03:07 |
Ignoring the bonus features, if he were based on a real car, I'd agree with landrover1 and say he'd be the '06 Charger NASCAR. He's not the Viper, because the Viper's head lights are rounded, and his are more pointed like the Charger's. |
scaryclown101 ◊ 2011-02-06 01:14 |
It's a 2006 Charger for sure. |
◊ 2011-02-06 01:45 |
Did you know that animators can draw cars that have absolutely no basis on any real life car? It's a fascinating concept. |

I like when Pixar adds inside references in their movies, such as McQueen's racing number being a reference to the year Toy Story was released. |
