Mistake. 1990-1991 had clear turn signal lenses. 1988-1989 had Amber lenses. This is a 1988-1989. |

This thing replaced the origenal Monaco as the Blues Mobile. |

more info in this sites: http://bluesmobile.info/inthemovies/1990CrownVic/page1/page1.html and about the blues mobile general info www.bluesmobil.net |

The lenses are clear in the first pic. It has amber bulbs instead to light it up amber. They did make the mistake of using an earlier model in some shots, but the big picture posted above is a '90-'91. |

Sweet. |
◊ 2006-08-03 23:16 |
This was a nice car |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-08-03 23:27 |
It was good (because it held a Blue Oval on it's grill), but I missed the Monaco. |
◊ 2006-08-03 23:32 |
Not as good as the first, well, apart from the crash! Any reason why they didn't use the Monaco? |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-08-03 23:36 |
I tihnk it was because, you know at the end of Blues Brothers 1, the Monaco is seen dead? I guess they meant for the Monaco to be killed off in the first movie. ![]() |
◊ 2006-08-03 23:40 |
Yeah i guess...I always think of this version of the Crown Victoria as THE Hollywood cop car, but when i think bluesmobile, it's always the Monaco. I guess they chose the Crown because most people wouldn't tell the difference. |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-08-03 23:44 |
When I first saw BB:2000, I didn't notice the difference untill at least halfway through the movie. Still, the Victoria is a rgeat car ![]() |

Although it would technically get 5 stars, I think that since this movie is so bad (except for the music!), it should stay 4 stars |
◊ 2006-09-21 22:25 |
Well, it is practically as much a part of the movie as the original Bluesmobile was, so it should be 5 stars. |
◊ 2006-09-22 10:01 |
But it does not have the same popularity... not a "legend" car, if you see what I mean |
◊ 2006-11-27 20:26 |
Also none of the car chases in this film really compare to the ones in the original. |
◊ 2007-05-12 04:30 |
They should have used a Dodge Diplomat! ![]() |
◊ 2007-06-05 22:17 |
This one is a 1991. |
◊ 2007-06-21 02:20 |
A St.Regis would have been better looking. |
◊ 2007-09-21 20:03 |
American cars from the early 90s looked like they were much older. |
◊ 2007-10-14 06:03 |
but a Diplomat would be easyer to find in good shape, a St. Regis wouldv'e been fine too though anything but a Ford! |
◊ 2008-02-01 17:50 |
I think this is a better looking car than a Dodge Diplomat. Also I think the idea was that Elwood was to buy a car that had just been retired as a police car, a St. Regis would be at least 17 years old in 1997, totally shagged out and would have been long retired as a police car (or scrapped). Maybe they should have used a Diplomat, I don't know, was it really that important that the Bluesmobile had to be a Dodge? And all those complaining that the original Dodge Monaco Bluesmobile should have been brought back forget that it died at the end of the first movie. Although since John Belushi also died in real life, maybe this belated sequel wasn't the best idea in the world anyway. -- Last edit: 2008-02-01 17:50:45 |

Shouldn't this be a 1990? That's what it says on the police report picture. It's definitely not earlier than that because the interior was remodeled for the '90 and '91 models. |
◊ 2008-04-03 02:03 |
They used a combination of 1988-1991 models (or 1990-1991 as you say, I can't remember.) The one in the main picture just happens to be a 1991, which is why it's listed as such. -- Last edit: 2009-07-23 20:38:09 |
◊ 2008-06-19 06:03 |
Thats why I say a Diplomat its final year was 1989 and the vic was a 1991 so whats two years (and sticking with a RWD Mopar!) |
◊ 2008-10-23 20:14 |
The reason they used a '90 Ford LTD Crown Victoria was that (as Dan Aykroyd explains in the DVD) Elwood should have got to face police with the same weapons they had. Because in 1998 the most available police car was the Ford Crown Victoria, it was necessary that Elwood's got a Crown Victoria too. Crown Vic looks pretty similar to former Dodge Monaco, creating a sort of "Family look" with her ancestor. Besides, the cars were probably all furnished by Ford Motor Company, as sponsor for the movie, and so the main character had to use a Ford. Anyway, if you have to think about an alternative for the LTD Crown Vic, I would say only one car; the '90 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1, wich is also really powerful, and would have made a great scene in the movie. But the LTD Crown Vic is the best, I love that car!!!! |
◊ 2008-12-18 15:13 |
Firstly, it is not a good movie. I have a DVD boxset of the two films. I watch the first one all the time but have only seen the second one once. As far as the car debate goes. The Crown Vic is the iconic police car seen in movies and on TV. It is the ideal car for the Blues Mobile. Secondly if you think back to the first film when Elwood in explaining to Jake why he got the car: The original Blues Mobile was a Cadillac (never seen only mentioned) so why can’t the new Blues Mobile be a Ford? Jake: What's this? Elwood: What? Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy? Elwood: The what? Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile! Elwood: I traded it. Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this? Elwood: No. For a microphone. Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that. Well, what the hell is this? Elwood: This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City Police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect Police Car. They were practically giving them away. Jake: Well, thank you pal, the day I get out of prison, my own brother picks me up in a police car. [Fog horn and warning bell sounds.] Elwood: You don't like it? Jake: No, I don't like it. [Elwood drives over a raising draw bridge.] Jake: Cars got a lot of pick up. Elwood: It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. Whaddya say? Is it the new Blues Mobile or what? Jake: Fix the cigarette lighter. |

Not to mention, in 1998,You couldn't find any mid-70s monacos.They were already long-gone. |
◊ 2011-03-01 21:58 |
Excellent observations! While I do not like this car as much as the '74 Monaco from the first movie, it matters little, since this movie was so disappointing! -- Last edit: 2011-07-06 22:57:16 |

That's no excuse; this one is less-known and still gets five stars: /vehicle_583036-Chevrolet-Camaro-1967.html -- Last edit: 2014-11-19 19:24:46 |

Noone gives a shit on the ranking of this car and this movie. It's a waste of lifetime to discuss about. Only the original counts. |
◊ 2014-11-20 16:29 |
I am not sure that one deserve 5-star rating. It is often used wrongly. |
◊ 2014-11-20 16:30 |
But this one does, I mean, it's the bluesmobile. |
◊ 2014-11-20 18:03 |
No the Bluesmobile is /vehicle_2078-Dodge-Monaco-1974.html ![]() |
◊ 2014-11-20 18:20 |
Another example: Why does this /vehicle_58758-Chevrolet-Impala-16387-1967.html get five stars, I haven't even heard of this series before. |
◊ 2014-11-20 19:01 |
The series (and car) is very well-known at least here and in the US. It doesn't really prove much but check the number of Facebook likes the cars has. |
◊ 2014-11-24 16:39 |
That's another problem, because it is actually quite well known ![]() |
◊ 2015-03-23 19:14 |
Vice-versa in my case. ![]() |

GUYS, THIS CAR DESERVES 5 STARS!!!!! SHE'S A CHARACTER IN THE MOVIE, SHE'S EVEN CALLED BY NAME!!!! 5 STARS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 CORRECT THIS MISTAKE!!!!! |

don't scream, some of us might be in a library.. ![]() |
◊ 2020-06-27 19:30 |
Correct the mistake then!!!!! Five stars!!!! |
◊ 2021-06-30 07:51 |
Is it really a mistake? This isn't Herbie, or KITT. The Crash! car mentioned above was subject of a lengthy discussion. This CV was used a lot, but it's not like the original Bluesmobile, so maybe four stars would be correct. |
◊ 2021-10-22 04:10 |
Times change and everything is updated, we suppose they would make another Blues Brothers movie, which car would be chosen apart, it should be a former police officer similar to Higway Patrol California, perhaps a Dodge charger, or a Caprice 9C1 or Impala anyone except a Ford CV 1998-2012. I did like the movie and the Bluesmobile too, but the only thing that I didn't like was no Caprice in the police fleet. |

After re-reading this thread for the 100th time, I have come to the conclusion that the actual reason why the Crown Vic in this movie doesn't get the well deserved 5 stars is simply because someone doesn't like the movie, which is a categorically ridiculous reason!! This car is a character in the movie, called by name and used from start to finish in every major scene, yet, the rating hasn't changed in over 10 years!! I don't find it professional AT ALL!! It probably means that plenty of other ratings throughout the website are made up based on "I like this, I don't like that". Absurd!!! |
