Agree, at first I thought a Toyota Celica... |

It's an '86 -'88 Monte SS. I'm leaning more toward an '87 or '88, but I can't see the rear bumper and taillights well enough to know for sure. Mirrors and wheels mark it as at least an 86, and not '83 - '85. I have a craving to see this film again now... |

it became a Cutlass when it was burned out. |

There was no 3rd brakelight so it was an '85 or below (and if it were an SS ware are the "SS" signs on the doors?) |

its been repainted and the stripe kits cost over $400... probably not that important in the overall movie budget. Its an '86+ regardless of the 3rd brake light. Yes, they only started after '86, but id be more inclined to believe that they removed it rather than they changed the doors to the later, '86+ style |

isn't the front clip 86+ style anyway, i thought 85 and older had the fiberglass more flat one, not the urethane(normally warped by now) front clip |

Most of these cars have been repainted by now, and not everyone bothers reapplying decals. I think most of the IROC Camaros / Pontiac Trans Ams / Monte Carlo SSs that I see now are missing their original graphics. |

what makes it an SS and a reguler Monte Carlo? |

The nose cone and trimming was exclusive to the SS model. The following pic is of a non-SS Monte...it's easy to spot the difference. -- Last edit: 2007-10-06 16:37:26 (antp) |

Theres a chance they used more than one Monte for the movie, based on the interior shots, etc. Could of removed the 3rd brake light or sometime along the way the doors were replaced with 86-88's, obviously the car isn't stock with its paint color. It has 87-88 tailights in the above picture though. The differences of SS vs non SS are many: the motor is specific ("High" output 305), rear gear ratio is steeper, blacked out trim, different front nose, rear spoiler, wheels, interior trim, etc, etc. |

while it is supposed to be an SS, it is not a factory color and in one scene it almostl ooks like its got a vinyl top that has been painted over. actually you can kind of see this in the main picture above if you look right below the rear quarter window, you'll notice a seam or lip of some sort. a car without a vinyl roof wouldn't have that. the line would be there but it would be much less defined. something is on there like possibly a painted over chrome strip or something notice in this pic of a stock SS below how much less defined that line is |

Embarassing shitbox, compared with the first one. |

It appears to be an 87-88 with a paint job...probably originally a black SS |

It's a 87-88 Monte Carlo LS that somebody converted it into a SS & yes It's been known that some true 87-88 Monte Carlo SS's came gold with tan/saddle interior with gold strips but was only ordered that way. From 83-88 GM never put a vinyl top on the Super Sport package. They only came with the Hard Top, Sunroof (Optional) & T-Top from 85-88 never any vinyl tops. If you bought the LS Monte from the dealership it would most likely have a vinyl top on it. |

My husband has a 1986 Monte Carlo much like this one and my first car was a blue 1987 t-top camaro, like the one in the movie, so it breaks our hearts to see these cars "fighting" and treated so badly. |

it blows up from a frontal impact, not a rear one -- Last edit: 2019-05-19 12:59:38 |

in movies often the front seats are most explosive part of a car. |

Glad I came across this page, i actually have the camera car that was used for this scene of Black dog movie. They used 9 diffrent monte carlos for this scene some were original SS some were just clones. Its a long but good story how i ended up with the one of the original SS out of this production,an well jus lookin at rebuilding it back to original after so many years of holding on to it. |
