Correct. The new century began in 1901 and 2001. However, 'turn of the century' is a slang phrase referring to a period and not a specific date. It refers to the time around the end of one century and the beginning of another - until 2000 it specifically referred to the late 1800s - early 1900s. A 1895 or 1905 car could be correctly described as 'turn of the century'. I guess the french is something like 'fin de siècle' referring to the last few years of the 1800s or 1900s.
