It's either a Dodge Diplomat or a Plymouth Gran Fury, although I can't see any defining features from this picture. |

I would've just said the hubcaps look "fleet vehicle" which could be either the Dodge or the Plymouth. |

What a pile of rubbish these 5thgrandiplofurys were.... I never could warm up to them. Build quality was so atrocious that after they were added to the State Department fleet in Berlin in the early 80s, we used the subway and bus services a lot. Probably Chrysler Corp's 80s concept to save the environment while still selling cars :-) I hope it got smashed up in the movie(?)! |

hey now, the 80's were tough times for V8 cars, think back. EVERYONE was trying to figure out a way to cram all that stupid emissions junk on a car and make it a half decent performer. The chrysler product police cars were the best of the 80s. They handled well, took a beating and kept going, were easy to work on and they were even decent on gas as compared to a caprice or a LTD/crown vic. I've seen plenty with over 200K miles and still going strong. |

Why is this one listed as a 1987 Gran Fury? We can't see the wipers nor steering wheel or CHMSL. Why not 1982?  |

First of all the grill says "Dodge" in it meaning this is a Dodge Diplomat, on top of that it has the chrome windshield wiper arms which mean it's limited to a 1980-1983 model, however it has barely any trim but there is no indication it was removed because I removed the trim off a 1980 Dodge Diplomat we were making into a police car for a customer and it left these bullet hole looking things (what the trim was being held on by) that we had to get off and fill. Also it has steelies dog dish hubcaps which in fact are all things Chrysler offered however only on fleet models as well as the fact if it was a civilian model even if it was the lowest trim model it would've had trim on the pillar and across the body from front to rear, something this doesn't have making it a fleet model. I'm willing to bet it was an ex police car and in that case it would have the chassis code from 1981 to 1983 A38. Because in 1980 there were no fleet diplomats, only civilian sale of them which wouldn't have came like this period with such little trim and these wheels. Which would mean this is a "1981 Dodge Diplomat [A38]". Also to address what everyone had previously said I've had many family members in law enforcement who drove these Diplomat's, 80-81 Lebaron's, and Gran Fury's and they will tell you that during the 80's the Chrysler M platform cars were your best choice for a police car, the Chevrolet wasn't a good performer until 1986 and the Ford wasn't a good performer until 1988, now yes chrysler has been known to have build quality issues however this is one of the few cars it did not affect, I've known people who've owned civilian model M platform cars and I've never heard one complaint, I'm going to suppose the people who were saying how bad they were here a few years ago either ended up with very early models before they ironed out the kinks which is common on most all cars or just don't like the looks of the car and were making stuff up. I'm not siding with anyone in this instance but I'm just saying what I know to be true. |

I will note that in the main pic, the taillights show the black trim around the taillight, which was a Plymouth feature. Dodge had silver trim. |
