With absolute certainity this is a 1980. The F-bodies switched to the large rear window for 1975, which is always the first thing to look at when identifying 2nd generation Camaros/Firebirds. The rear facing hood scoop was new for 1980. The grille switched to body color for the final 2nd generation Z28 built for model year 1981. Also, the removable roof panels were no longer offered for 1981. Since this car has the rear facing hood scoop, a black grille and the removable roof halves, we can clearly identify it as a 1980. A 450ci engine was never built by Chevrolet. The Z28 models for 1980 came equipped with RPO LM1, a 350ci (5.7 liter btw, GM had switched to metric for 1980), 190hp small block V8 which was no longer available for other models, or for Z28s certified for sale in California. |
