When Hightower flips it over it transforms into a 74' Matador.

As I remember the final credits correctly, AMC had sponsored the movie (perhaps the following, too).

Hightower flips the transformed 74, and you can tell afterward that the motor is gone.....haha.
I wonder if some of these Matadors were the ones wrecked in Martin's Day, filmed in Canada.

To my knowledge at least there was no exterior difference between a 1975 and a 1976 model plus while we don't know for sure if it was a Police Package, one of them is a 1974 and the other main ones are 1975+ models, but 1975's by default. Let's change this to "1975 AMC Matador" as 1975 was the first year they looked like this and 1975 was also the last year for the Police Package. "1975 AMC Matador"

It was a very small change, but during the 1976 model year on most AMC models, AMC added little rubber bump strips on the corner of the bumpers. You can see them on the rear bumper here. That is why this one is listed as a 1976 model.
