You almost convinced me. The side-vents and the hood-mascot are definitely DeSoto, but the 1936 models have a split windscreen, with the windscreen-wipers mounted on the bottom. Additionally the rear wheels were covered, the front bumper slightly different and the rear lights not integrated.

Have a look at the links and let me know what make of it:

Either DeSoto changed some details during that production year or the film people had a Dodge but wanted a DeSoto.

Since it´s a ten year old taxicab there´s a lot of things that could have happened to it over the years. Maybe it´s as easy at it in fact is a 1936 Dodge that had been crashed and the front end is replaced with De Soto parts.

But it isn´t impossible that it was delivered as a De Soto Taxi with this body and long wheelbase chassis from Dodge.
These changes could have been made by a "Special Vehicles" department at Chrysler Corp. or even by the local dealer.

The car is definetely a 1936 De Soto Airstream .In 1936 De Soto Airstream S-1 models came either in the short 117-inch wheelbase or as a seven passenger sedan with 132 inches. The latter were often used as taxis. The example here is probably a 7 passenger De Luxe version of the long wheelbase Airstream made to taxi specifications. As opposed to the Custom versions , the De Luxe versions had a flat one-piece windshield ( Custom models had a split windshield ) ,and one winshield wiper mounted above the windshield ( Custom models had two cowl mounted wipers) .The example here one has an additional wiper on the passenger side.De Luxe versions had only one taillamp on the left side( this cannot be checked here since the right side is not visible).Normally all 1936 Airstream sedans had a built-in trunk as standard equipment but this is not the case on this car, probably to cope with the taxicab companies requirements.
