There was no point to having the Trans-am to get 4 stars because all Rocky does is drive wrecklesley and then goes to the dock to give for free to his partner? 3 stars or 2 stars. |

Does anyone know where Rocky's Trans Am is now? I would love to see it. |

Rocky Balboas personal car is actually a brand new black/gold Smokey and the Bandit editon 1979 Pontiac Trans Am with 6.6. Litre which has actually a high performance Oldsmobile 403 Turbo engine, and the car brand new costed $8,500.00 dollars. This is the last year for the Trans Am to have a T/A 6.6. which is actually Pontiac's 400 Turbo engine, and 6.6. Litre which is actually Oldsmobiles 403 Turbo engine. -- Last edit: 2008-11-25 00:08:00 |

Pontiac 400 is better performance wise and the new 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition Y82 "Bandit" with either a Pontiac 6.6 L 400 engine or Pontiac 455 6.6 L engine costs brand new around $60,000. |

I know where Rocky's 1979 Trans Am is. One of the Three used in the movie is in New Jersey sitting in my garage. I've owned it since the production company released it to Adam Pontiac after filming was complete. I bought it "new". It was still an "A" title since it was loaned to the production company for the making of the film. -- Last edit: 2010-01-19 22:32:46 |

Pretty much everything you wrote here is factually incorrect. The price, absurdly so. |

I don't know where you're getting this stuff. Neither the Olds engine or the Pontiac engine was a turbo. The automatic cars came with the Olds 403, the 4 speed cars came with a Pontiac 400. The decals on the shaker are different. The Pontiac motor says "T/A 6.6" while the Olds motor says "6.6 Litre" and once again, they were both naturally aspirated. |

Considering that Rocky II is supposed to occur in 1976 it's pretty sweet that Rocky bought a '79 (which is when the movie was made) |

Rocky's ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I bet the 8-track radio is playing "Gonna Fly Now" Chorus ![]() ![]() ![]() Check out the shaker decals "6.6 Litre". ![]() NOT shaker decals "T/A 6.6"= 220 hp Pontiac 400 cid (naturally aspirated @MaindrianPace) V8 ("X" Code) ![]() "6.6 Litre"=V8 403 cubic inch Oldsmobile (naturally aspirated @MaindrianPace) engine ("K" VIN Code) ![]() 403 Olds--185 horsepower ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are some interesting facts about Rocky's 1979 Trans Am: ![]() 1.) The 1979 Trans Am was re-designed with new graphics and a front nose with quad rectangular headlamps that stood in seperate bezels with a new grille below them. The rear end also got a make-over and featured blackout panels that disguised the taillights on Trans Am models. ![]() 2.) Fit tolerances of door, fenders, hoods, and deck lids were pitiful. T-tops ALWAYS leaked (I guess I COULD forgive Balboa for not having the T-top option). The paint had runs and light spots. Hoods flopped around and doors rattled. ![]() But the car was still a Trans Am. ![]() 3.) The 1979 Trans Am's top speed is 112 ![]() 4.) In 1979 Pontiac sold 116,535 Trans Ams which still holds the record to this day=FTW! ![]() -- Last edit: 2011-02-04 21:26:47 |

@Axl_Rosenberg—-I agree. @MaindrianPace-—Turbos?! WTH? Pontiac DID produce a 301 (4.9 Litre) Turbo for the 1980 and 1981 Trans Ams. It sported a Garrett TBO-305 Turbocharger. @TheBandit77TransAm--Are you referring to the Burt Reynolds edition Trans Am by Year One? http://www.yearone.com/yodnn/home/tabid/54/default.aspx @hemiramman--That is SO COOL! Thank you for preserving a Unique Piece of Movie Automotive History! @nathankc-—Wow! Great call, and attention to detail. That is an anachronism (car newer than the time frame of the movie). Rocky Balboa must have built a time machine with his Prize Money($!) from "going the distance" with Apollo Creed at the 1976 New Year's Day "Bicentennial Fight"! Looks like thats 2 things Sly and Burt have in common both were in the movie DRIVEN, and both drove a BLACK TRANS AM! Funny that his car is a 79, and this sequel follows up from the 76 fight? Shouldn't he be driving a 77? Either way it was a great movie re-training a southpaw to fight right handed and catch a chicken! God Bless Mickey! -- Last edit: 2011-07-09 22:48:48 |
