In the USA it was sold as Renault LeCar, that's why US R5 are labelled like that on the site.
Same for:
R9 => Renault Alliance
R11 => Renault Encore
R21 => Renault Medallion
R25 => Eagle Premier (sedan version of the R25 hatchback)

What number was the Renault Fuego?

None, it was the first Renault since long time to not have a number.

In this movie, both this Renault and a Citroen from earlier in the movie are portrayed as rather everyday kind of cars... Yet I have never seen a Renault or a Citroen in person in my whole life, do American stoners often drive French cars or something?

Well considering that Renault has been out of the US for 25 years, and Citroen for almost 40, I'm going to guess that you are a youngster (under 30), who does not remember when these cars were used as everyday transport. They were never common, but people did use them when newer. Filmmakers love to use them for "quirky" or "artsy" characters (same way they love to use the AMC Pacer). Makes the character more interesting than if they drove a Fairmont or Sentra or anything else blasé. So I wouldn't use them as a barometer for stoners.

Actually supposed to be a 1983 model, as "1983 RENAULT LeCar" is visible on a police computer screen during one scene.

Le Cars were pretty common in my area for a while... until they rusted away, that is! Average life expectancy was something under 10 years.

LOL...if you are in the northern part of US, you are in the same situation as me : a lot of cars just rust away in our areas... :)

This should be two stars. It's not seen until the last five minutes of the movie and is only driven in two shots, minus the ending credits montage.
