this is one of the most customized cars in the united states. all the custom clubs have at least one of two of this car and obviusly a ford 32 hot rod. |

not really landrover. these are too expensive for many people to have. the work done to this car is in the tens of thousands of dollars. chopped top, custom glass, bagges suspension, custom paint....honnda civics are much easier. now, this is one of the most desired though. .gif ":)") |

Now my husband say that this is a 1950 Hudson. I say that its a 1950 Mercury the same kind of Mercury that was on Cobra. If you look at the front end of the Mercury in this movie and the Mercury in Cobera They have the same grill. Now we both could be wrong and this could be an Ambassidore. But I don't think so. Could somebody tell us who's right. |

It's a 51 Mercury, not 50, but it's the same car that was used in the movie Cobra and in the movie was a 51 Mercury. So, this is a 51 Mercury. |

landrover1 learn something about cars wont ya? This is far from a 1932 ford hot rod, did you post this comment on the wrong page? LOL, this is a 1950 Mercury, it is actually the same Merc as on the 1986 movie Cobra, it was originally stolen from Stallones garage in 1994 and found again in 1999. It was reconditioned for Gone in 60 seconds. |

i'm pretty certain that in the landrover1 comment from 2006, he meant that the custom clubs always have 1 or 2 of these AND that '32 fords are popular custom bases as well... not that this was a '32 ford... |

Might look like a Hudson but it's not! It's a 1949 or 1950 Mercury definitely not a '51 which had longer rear wings (fenders) unless someone can prove it's a '51 fitted with 49 or '50 rear wings. But if it's one of the four Mercs used in Cobra then it's a 1950. -- Last edit: 2012-01-25 20:01:09 |

Okay, been looking into this story. This is a 1950 Mercury (not a '51) and it is NOT one of the four used in Cobra. The misunderstanding comes from the fact that Cinema Vehicle Services (who built the 12 Eleanor Mustangs for this film) supplied a lot of the cars for this movie. Around 1994 Stallone had one of the Cobra Mercuries stolen from his garage, in 2009 he found it was listed in an auction by held by CVS. He never accused CVS of stealing it but did ask that they return it and legal action was taken. That car was still painted grey and looking like it did in the movie. The 1950 Merc pictured here is not that Cobra car. Could someone please change the title to 1950 Mercury not 1951? |

Thanks for clearing the air , I think there might be a possibility of one of the crashed Mercs from Cobra being used, I read somewhere that on a video shot in the '90s in a studio , there was a crashed grey Mercury . Apparently the one that lived and Stallone recently reclaimed was fitted was fitted with a superhcarged 350 , capable of 11 seconds , and an olds rear end, she sure was sweet , except for that scoop -- Last edit: 2012-12-07 23:23:37 |

I highly doubt that amovie producer would spend at least 80k to rebuild aCobra car into atotally new custom that is only used in the movie for a few minutes. Being a builder of afew kustoms and a hotrod artist that designs rods and kustoms from research, trust me, that would have been the minimum it would have taken. Differences in mods include a lower top chop which is a pain once a roof is already chopped and more expensive then a regular chop. Judging by the looks Iwould say 5 inches were taken out of the Cobra Merc and 7 fom the GI60 Merc. The taillights would have had to be shaved and moved to rear bumper, lakes pipes added. New shaved hood,white walls and a full new kustom white tuck n' roll interior with a 15-20k kandy flamed paint job. This is why new car movies (ie...Faster, Fast and Furious franchise, and I promise GI60) have car casting calls so they can rent the cars for a couple days. Ican guarantee this car is cruising the US somewher if not Southern Cali. |
