A Lexus concept created specially for the movie. The Audi RSQ was created under similar circumstances for i-Robot. |

I don't really like most futuristic movie cars I am more into classic cars from the 1960s 1970s and 1980s but Man this one is just freaking awesome and original and I wish that it could have been used more in the movie and this baby actually mad number 8 on Empire Magazines top 10 movie cars and that is enough reason fore me to want to take a ride in this baby -- Last edit: 2020-06-13 00:49:30 |

Whenever I watch films like this I always hope that cars won't end up looking like this when I'm about 70 (in fact that's exactly how old I will be in 2054, if I'm still alive then). |

I could imagine cars looking like this sometime between 2014 and 2024. In 2054 they will probably look completely different. |

Ok, we're in 2014 and cars still does not look like this. But I kinda like it, it is bold and very aggressive. -- Last edit: 2014-05-11 21:28:55 |

There are some interesting stories about this car. Harald Belkar indeed designed it. A company in Orange County, California built the body and assembled it to the chassis for which I provided the layout. It utilized a transverse rear drive subframe from a Pontiac Fiero with an electric motor adapted to the flywheel and a plate machined to fix it to the trans. The batteries were installed midship behind the seats, and motor control electronics above the motor. After filming, the car went on a publicity tour with Lexus and also on interviews with Tom Cruise. Tom and I are similar in size. I had no problem driving the car so I figured it would be fine. Famously, Jay Leno had Tom and the car on the Tonight Show, and tried to sit in the car... No joy. Also, when it want on the auto show circuit, Toyota Lexus PR dept. sent out specification sheets listing features that the perceived model year luxury EV might offer, ie. digitally color changeable solar generating paint, 500kW motor, etc. When fans began to discover that I provided the electrical system people were actually threatening me to release the tech to the public. I asked Toyota PR to issue a statement to remind folks that this was a fantasy/ sci fi movie prop! Later I found a guy advertising a black version of the car for sale, making the claim that it was the one from the movie. Since it was not far from me, I had to see. It was a poorly made knock off with a gas engine. I think he wanted $25k. The real ones cost $1M for two cars. One was dark metallic red and the other was burnt orange. |
