VIN report lists built in Japan. But VIN 1st digit is "L". L supposed to be China. |

![]() ![]() I would say there seems to be an issue with that number. |

Sanfu located in Taiwan. Which explains the China VIN. Current politics disagree about that connection. Maybe most Troopers were built in Japan and Isuzu had to outsource production to Sanfu. |

Could this be an import? The vehicle is over the 25 year restriction. All the US VINS start with JAC. |

Wikipedia lists LFA for Ford Lio Ho, so L codes must have been given to Taiwanese manufacturers at some point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number#Asia |

I think the first question should be did that company even make Troopers? |

I knew Sanfu Motors used to assembly Renaults for Taiwanese domestic market, but it seems that they also had a collaboration with GM, Isuzu and Subaru, they did build the Trooper, and they even exported "4WD trucks" to the US if I understand well: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanfu_Motors Link to "web.archive.org" Link to "web.archive.org" Link to "web.archive.org" |

Found an archived article from the LA Times about this: Meanwhile, GM is apparently on the verge of getting yet another low-cost utility vehicle, this time from the Third World. San Fu Motors of Taiwan has just started to produce the Isuzu Trooper utility vehicle for export to the United States and Canada under contract with Isuzu of Japan and GM, which owns 38.6% of Isuzu. Isuzu already sells Japanese-built Troopers here, but both Isuzu and GM will now sell the Taiwan-built version in North America. Isuzu is likely to sell the Taiwan-built Troopers in the United States, while GM will sell them only in Canada. Isuzu said it has expanded Trooper production to Taiwan because of a shortage of factory space in Japan, but also in part to avoid Japan’s high manufacturing costs, which have soared as a result of the yen’s rise. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1987-06-23-fi-9921-story.html |

They called Taiwan a third world country in 1987? The reporter who wrote that was probably using a computer with parts made in Taiwan. |
