Side panels say 1981-85 pre-facelift C126. I uploaded some stills that might(?) indicate who did the conversion.

I'm not very good at these (aka. don't like them...), but I believe this is a conversion by Styling Garage/ SGS of Pinneberg, Germany.

Apparently this is the first C126 convertible on imcdb.org! Though I'm sure there was a second one (black) appearing in an earlier MV episode driven by an agent or lawyer or something which I'm going to go back and find at some point (maybe..)

Coupes didn't arrive until 1982 in the US and they were only 380SEC's. The 500-series didn't arrive until the 1983 model year. So this is not a 1981 or 1982 model year.

That's correct, but don't forget about the massive grey market during those years. It's very likely that this was a Euro-spec car privately imported into the US.
