79 trans am ....10th anniversery (did i spell that right?) 79 is the year that in my opinion trans am was ruined.

as a matter of fact i just got done watching that movie on cable and i wouldnt say it bothered me but it did strike me as kind of a stupid thing to say.

it's funny you mention the part about the "slant six" because thats exactly why i signed on here to see if anybody else caught that..400 pontiac V8..not quite a slant six, plus the term "slant six" was what mopar called their 6 cyl. since the engine was literally on a slant.

yes Rockford I was also bothered by that slant six comment, I bitch about it every time I watch the movie.

no way dude, the 79 was the last of the badass T/A's, as long as it the 400 and not the 403

I agree, '79 was the last year of the great Trans Ams even with the 403. The 403 has a reputation of being a boat anchor because it doesn't have the horsepower rating of the W72 motor. Reality is that they were both hysterically underrated, and they were both torque monsters. They didn't have the compression and power of pre-smog era cars, but that's a given. People like the face of the '77-'78 better, but the '79 had better tail lights, graphics, interior and now you had 4 wheel disc brakes available. T-tops were all Fisher, not the awful Hurst stuff from '77 and halfway through '78. '79s actually my favorite year for the T/A.
