Strange this movie wasn't uploaded before. It's pretty famous though?

Strange indeed. I knew the title due to a race in Carmageddon... I think.
I was disappointed, I was expecting an action movie, especially with the explosion seen on the movie poster :o

Ha, I had the exact same feeling as antp when I first saw this, though I was too bored to stick to the end. Second time around I did, but remember nothing of it, so I might as well tune in again.

Nah, not this one. It's not Super Mario Bros.... :D
Plus, now I know not to expect a fast-paced chase & action flick, so I may like it better.

when it comes to that category the must see from the 80s , creme de la creme :)

- The Terminator (1984) and its mega sequel Terminator 2 Judgement Day (1991)
- Predator (1987) , thought that Predator 2 wasn't that bad
- Die Hard and the 2 inferior sequels but still good 2 and 3
- Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 , 3 and 4 sucked
- Robocop (1984)
- Total Recall (1990)
- Mad Max (1979) and mega action sequel The Road Warrior (1981)
- Indiana Jones trilogy

2nd tier

- The Running Man (1987)
- Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2
- Top Gun
- Blue Thunder (1983)
- Rambo
- Cobra (1986)
- Commando

^ the problem with Lethal Weapon 3 and 4 they move too much into comedy and they got convoluted with too many side characters specially 4th you really needed Chris Rock in it ?? and that stupid story with all those immigrants and Jet Li' bad guy stupid plot to make counterfeit money when he could have just organized some robbery

Indeed they are more comedy, less "dark" than the first two. But I still like these :)

“Friendship is the only choice in life you can make that's yours!”

It's amazing what your expectations can do to a movie. Expect an action-packed crime yarn (and why wouldn't you? it's in the poster, trailer, any plot summary out there...) and you'll be bored senseless. Expect an interminable exercise in tedium, and, well, you just might be pleasantly surprised. Especially if in the meantime you forgot all the plot details and learned that the cop's character was modelled after and even offered to Pat Riley of all people. That just made Kurt Russell a lot of fun to watch. So yes, thirty-odd years ago this movie bored me to the extent I couldn't even finish it, but now I expected to be bored and aggravated, and I was neither. I thought, in fact, the movie was really quite good and I enjoyed it a fair bit. Except for the neverending steamy scene with Gibson and Pfeiffer, but that's why there's the ffw button. The three stars were a pleasure to watch and it also helped I had forgotten who else was in the movie, so I appreciated J.T. Walsh as an FDE man, and particularly the ever underrated (and underused) Raul Julia who briefly does some mighty fine singing, too. So, unlike some movies I remembered fondly but found myself close to loathing when I watched them again many years later, this one went in the opposite direction.

Upgraded to HD which is 16:9 and seems to be slightly cropped on the right side.

This is from Roger Ebert and it's one of several reasons I only read his reviews after I watch a movie, because he did this far too often. Escalante is a Mexican Federale working with the FBI to bust said Mexican drug kingpin who is referred to solely and exclusively and many but evidently not enough times for Ebert as Carlos. There's a bit of a joke here, though (do NOT open if you haven't seen the movie but want to):
Spoiler - click here to see it
Escalante is Carlos, but you don't put that in your review if you're an esteemed movie critic, especially if further on you refer to a surprising twist, now do you?
