Any chases or a big crash? ahight, when you say that you would get this movie in the mail, do you mean by Netflix? |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:42 |
Blockbuster Online...it arrived today at lunch! ![]() Going to watch it tonight since I haven't seen it in years. |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:42 |
No chases, no crashes |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:43 |
As "Assan" seems to be the name of the car in the movie, it should not be part of the model name, just added as a nickname. |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:48 |
Then what about this? becasue we are in the same circunstances... /vehicle_2455-Peugeot-206-WRC-Vaillante.html /vehicle_9156-Peugeot-807-Vaillante-2003.html |

These were officially provided by Peugeot as being Vaillante cars, and used that as a kind of advertising. I doubt that Fiat did the same for this movie ![]() Cf /vehicle_25982-Ford-LTD-Country-Squire-1983.html that did not get "Wagon Queen Family Truckster" in its model name, but just as extra info. And about the Vaillantes, these were added before that we had an extra info field, so if you think that they should be listed in the same way, we could modify these Vaillante, it is more logical I think. -- Last edit: 2007-02-09 19:53:03 |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:54 |
We dont know if Fiat didnt give them to advertise, whcih im sure they did... because otherwise they would have used other cars... |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:54 |
Ok if you change them,l i think both cases are the same... |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:57 |
It is not sure that Fiat used that as advertisement. The movie company may have paid to have right to make the movie. Is the Fiat logo visible on the cars and/or factory? On the Vaillante there is written "Peugeot" in big letters ![]() |
◊ 2007-02-09 19:58 |
In this movie is the logo of Assan written |
◊ 2007-02-09 20:04 |
Not really an advertising for Fiat then ![]() |

All the movie was a satyric way of compare two working worlds into Eighties':that Yankee and that of Japaneses(that just into Eighties were started to set-up motor mfg.plants in many Countries--including also USA--,for evite some import tax vexations, saw the examples of Honda that in 1982 start to build Accord cars in USA or Nissan that set up a plant in England in 1986 for made Bluebirds, those that were billed as"screwdriver factories"ironically, which vehicles build result to be locally-made and not imported,'cause weren't built into its origin Country, but having a foreign Brand) In fact, into movie came set-up in the town of Hadleysville the US-branch main plant of(fake)Japanese motor make Assan Motors(any referiment at true Nissan plant set up into Eighties'in Smyrna,Tennessee was non-casually,note as sounds Brand name like Nissan,it's enough to change some letters:NiSSAN=ASSAN;note also the Brand logo with a stylized Rising Sun,too much similar at Nissan logo, that also shown a red disc as emphasization of sun shape, that symbolizes Country of origin,Japan) Obviously, given that the new cars built don't offend any true-existing motor Brand, was chosen the way of a fake Brand invented for the movie, that replaces the five bars of Fiat logo on grille(but exist a blooper:in a scene when lift up motor hood of an Assan car,was clearly visible the name Assan associed to the 5-bars logo of Fiat embossed on air filter box cover) BTW,director Ron Howard choose that cars for represents ficticious production of Assan Motors,'cause the Argentinian-made Fiat 147 and Regatta(used into movie)don't were never marketed in USA(last Fiat-badged cars were marketed in the States until 1981 and were the Brava/131,Strada/Ritmo,X-1/9 and the Sport Spider/124 Sport Spider),so being actually never marketed Fiats on Yankee market Also for scenes inside/outside the plant of Assan Motors were probably used some dismissed assembly lines of Sevel Argentina(the stock footage of ready-made cars parked into plant patio was filmed probably just in Argentina, given that into ending titles of movie came thanksgiving an Argentinian crew, responsible of had filmed those scenes) Into movie, the plant came set up for a challenge:the technicians of Assan Motors would give a job chance at small town of Hadleysville, but then start early troubles:US-workers that don't would work like Japanese workers and for that, make strikes for protest;they will change ideas when the boss of Assan coming in USA for visit the plant just open for see productive efficiency |

I remember a scene from the movie, where the guys have a beer near their Assan cars. I noticed these ones were different than the other Regattas because they were US-spec ! Orange side lights on the front fenders, and possibly different headlights. Strange because the Regatta wasn't sold in the USA. It would be great if a pic of this scene could be posted. |
◊ 2007-02-09 21:35 |
In fact were used Fiat Spazio and Regatta 'cause those cars don't were marketed and advertised in USA(for the twice aim of don't advertise a true imported car in USA and for evite to make bad advertisement at Fiat cars) |
◊ 2007-02-09 21:50 |
I know ! But I said I remember a scene were a Regatta had typical lighting found on a US-spec car, while all the other ones were not. |
◊ 2007-02-09 22:01 |
Probably was an adaptation for the movie(in the American area I knew that Regattas were marketed in those Countries:Argentina,Venezuela,Uruguay) |
◊ 2007-02-09 22:16 |
That's what I think too. But a pic would be great. Just to see if I wasn't dreaming ! -- Last edit: 2007-02-09 22:16:42 |

everything's covered up with Assan badges, even on the Dodge Omni/Horizons. ![]() saw this one...is it a real "Sport" or just a decal on a regular Regatta? ![]() The only things I saw that had orange sidemarkers were the Dodge Omni/Horizons and the Fiat Spazios. Couldn't find the actual scene you meant unless it's the part where the American's are on strike and they're out front of the factory drinking...i didn't see anything there either but a Ford Truck, a Pinto and a few of the Omni/Horizons. |

'Cause had never seen none Argentinian-made Regatta with that decal in ads photos, believe was an aftermarket sticker placed on sides just for give a resemblance of a sporty-trim Regatta'Assan'(BTW,the Regatta in Argentina was made only with 1.6 or 2lt.gasoline engines, but believe don't exist none Regatta Sport--the Regattas have same version names of Italian-made Regatas, being produced as Regatta 85 that with 1.6 engine and Regatta 100 that with 2-litre--the corrispective Italian-made Regata 100 S(=Super)would fit, meanwhile a 1.6 overpowered engine, and the sole 2-litre engine was that of 1.9 lt.Regata DS=Diesel Super) PS Give a look also at pictures shown into Offices of Assan Motors:the cars visible into posters are inequivocally Fiat, believe depicted into ads photos for Argentinian market -- Last edit: 2007-02-10 01:52:54 |

Please find some frames of few Assan-badged Argentinian-made Fiat 128 CL Europa(corresponds at Italian 1976 128 CL)that appears somewhere into movie(last editions were fitted with 5-speed gearbox,an option that European version model never had fitted) |
