First ever animated Lupin project, with the purpose behind it being made was to gain interest in the Lupin brand (with plans to maybe even make a theatrical film). However it was unpopular with most backers with its content. They later made a deal with TMS and that's how Part 1 was born (/movie_159175-Rupan-sansei.html). Some of the shots seen in the pilot where later re-used (with a few changes) in the first OP for Part 1
