Does anyone over here has a deeper knowledge about this movie? If yes, what's the dialect, the two black guys on the right side in the plane are talking in the orign US-version?
At the German synchronisation it's heaviest Bavarian. :)

The VHS-tape of that movie was a gift of my wife, when we'd been just shortly together. A good example, how deep young love can be - my wife hates all movies, made by the Zucker-brothers and movies, where Lesley Nielsen is involved. I must watch all of them alone. :D

I don't remember the film in detail but I think you are referring to the two characters who talk in 'Jive'. It is, or was, a black dialect which started with black labourers, especially railroad builders. Later it was heavily influenced by the emergence of black music especially jazz and blues. I suspect that the way they talk in the film is a parody rather than a true form of Jive. Like most forms of slang its purpose was to exclude those who did not belong to the group, i.e. white people.

Ah thanks, perhaps I'll find an original tape sometimes.

"Oh, stewardess, I speak Jive."

And, yes, that's Barbara Billingsley, Mrs. Cleaver herself, speaking jive.

One Mercedes [W123] appears, too. At the beginning, standing in front of the terminal.

It's OK to say "aeroplanes" (or airplanes if you're American) though. But craft is just one of those words that doesn't need to be pluralised.

Yes, I'm a late bloomer (in technical things). I've bought my first VHS-video-recorder in 1999 (my year of modernisation, I also bought my first car with a catalysator then, the 1987 Passat Variant GT). The first colour-TV I had in 1994 and a DVD-recorder in 2004 IIRC.

its very surprising but according to this pilot it would be accurate ( but i think they probably edited the jet sound out )

Why was this movie rated PG despite it being inappropriate?

Baube QC

not sure but i think the rating system was different back then

ayba wrote Why was this movie rated PG despite it being inappropriate?

There wasn't a PG-13 until the mid 1980s. If there wasn't Nudity, gross swearing, or extreme violence then a PG would suffice.
Quote In the early 1980s, complaints about violence and gore in films such as Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Gremlins, both of which received PG ratings, refocused attention on films seen by small children and pre-teens.[23] According to author Filipa Antunes, this revealed the conundrum of a film that "could not be recommended for all children but also could not be repudiated for all children uniformly," leading to speculation that the rating system's scope, in particular its PG classification, "no longer matched a notion of childhood most parents in America could agree on."[24] Steven Spielberg, director of Temple of Doom and executive producer of Gremlins, suggested a new intermediate rating between "PG" and "R".[25] The "PG-13" rating was introduced on July 1, 1984, with the advisory "Parents Are Strongly Cautioned to Give Special Guidance for Attendance of Children Under 13 – Some Material May Be Inappropriate for Young Children". The first film to be released with this rating was the 1984 John Milius war film Red Dawn.[26] In 1985, the wording was simplified to "Parents Strongly Cautioned – Some Material May Be Inappropriate for Children Under 13".[27] Around the same time, the MPAA won a trademark infringement lawsuit against the producers and distributors of I Spit on Your Grave over a fraudulent application of its R rating to the uncut version of the film,[28] and forced its member studios and several other home video distributors to put MPAA ratings on the packaging of MPAA-rated films via a settlement that would come into effect by fall that year.[29]
