![]() 1975 made-for-TV dramatic enactment of the federal investigation named Mississippi Burning which was launched when the bodies of three murdered Civil Rights Movement activists, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner were found after they had previously been reported missing, having been murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan. The murders were met with national outrage and an extensive federal investigation was undertaken, filed as Mississippi Burning (MIBURN). The civil-rights workers' burnt-out car was found parked near a swamp three days after their disappearance and an extensive search of the area was conducted by the FBI, local and state authorities, and 400 U.S. Navy sailors. Starring Ned Beatty, John Beck, George Grizzard, Rip Torn, Wayne Rogers, Dabney Coleman, Andrew Duggan, James Hampton, Billy Green Bush, and L.Q. Jones. None of the characters they play have the same name as the real-life people involved. Not sure why. Nine of the men involved in the murders were convicted and jailed, with one of the men, Edgar Ray Killen, dying in jail in 2018. Good riddance. Three star bulldozer, not shown well enough to list; all shots are either too far, too obscured, or too close. ![]() Set in 1964 Airdate: February 20th, 1975 |
