2005 French Canadian biopic about legendary hockey player Maurice "The Rocket" Richard. In 18 seasons of NHL hockey, he became the first player to score 50 goals in one season and the first to reach 500 career goals. His suspension in 1955 caused a riot that led to at least 65 arrests, 50 stores looted, 37 people injured, and $100'000 in damages ($1.1 million today). Maurice Richard's fame was aided by Roch Carrier's iconic 1979 children's story The Hockey Sweater, which was later adapted into an animated short. When Maurice Richard passed away in 2000, he became the first non-politician in Quebec's history to receive a state funeral. To many people, Maurice Richard is to ice hockey what Babe Ruth is to baseball.
