20 minute film taken from British Transport Films Volume One: On and Off the Rails 2-DVD set. Can be seen here. Superbly produced account (although irritating commentary in rhyming couplets) of the Elizabethan non-stop service from London to Edinburgh - 6½ hours (compared to now average journey time is 4 hours 41 minutes, fastest journey time is 4 hours 17 minutes). Pulled by the Silver Fox (footage reused in A New Age for Railways) and one of the best composed and evocative-of-its-time sequences I've seen for ages Edinburgh buses and tram -- Last edit: 2017-09-06 01:16:18 |
