Well then,![]() directed by one Herbert I. Leeds (don't ask me for more about him). It's the first version of The Brasher Doubloon, Raymond Chandler's High Window filmed adaptation, but with in place of Chandler's Philip Marlowe, Brett Halliday's main character, Michael Shayne, quite aptly played here by a very good Lloyd Nolan. Heather Angel is cute, Doris Merrick is frighteningly funny, or funnily frightening, there is nothing too glamourous in it but it makes a nice little pseudo-noir of a detective story. But hail to Lloyd Nolan, just as good, witty and bouncing here as he is bad to the bones as the rotten cop in Lady in the Lake. -- Last edit: 2015-01-28 17:09:23 |
