Never knew Kim Jong-Un owns an Audi R8, Porsche Panamera, Shelby Mustang GT500, Dodge Viper and Lamborghini Gallardo! |

Probably the movie-maker mixed it up with Saddam Hussein's and his sons fleet. Junior-Kim consumes away his daddy's cars, as two Strech-Limos on Mercedes W220-base. Dunno, if Grampa's old /vehicles_make-Mercedes-Benz_model-W100.html is still alive. In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Friendship_Exhibition you find his /vehicle_124219-Mercedes-Benz-S-Klasse-W140.html and the present, given by Stalin decades before Link to "qph.is.quoracdn.net" Sports cars are not that common in Pyongyang, rather big SUV, US-Vans and of course Mercedes Sedans. The Communist Party-Nomenklatura prefers Mercedes E-Klasse (mainly in black), high ranked military stuff loves the BMW X5 (the original, not the Chinese fake). I've spotted also a plenty of X3 and one X6, two Hummer and many VW Tiguan and Touareg. Porsche Cayenne I cannot remember. The commander of https://www.youtube.com/results?q=panmunjom uses a 1983' Mercedes 500 SEL [W126] for business. -- Last edit: 2014-12-27 02:33:24 (chicomarx) |

No, that was on purpose: it was part of the unexpected things about Kim. |

In Die Another Day, the North Korean warlord had a collection of exotic cars. A lot of corrupt dictators get their hands on flashy cars one way or another (Saddam's son stole a lot of his), even Brezhnev had a secret cache of luxury cars (Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, Merc 600, Lincoln Continental) when in Soviet Russia you had to be a government official just to be able to own a crappy Russian car. Given Kim Jong-un's decadent lifestyle, he's bound to have a car collection. -- Last edit: 2015-02-11 18:30:27 |

I imagine outside of Pyongyang, cars in general aren't too common. |

Not that much, but we could spot some intersting sights. |

About the Mercedes 600 [W100]: at least ALL dictators owned one or more.* Especially the Communists (AFAIK all except the DDR-Nomenklatura. There was only one 450 SEL 6.9 in use) Some years ago there was an article in a German classic car magazine about a VW-engineer from around Wolfsburg, who discovered at his stay in China in a clutter-barn of the FAW-plant one of Mao's 600. After an elaborate bureaucratic fight he could buy the car and bring ist back home. It's already restored. Baby Kim seems not that a car-fanatic as Daddy and even Grampa. He uses daddys old clunkers, two stretched [W220] S-Klassen (I was nearly killed by them -really, no kidding I already told it). Unfortunately this interesting book Link to "www.amazon.de" is not available in English. It's about the guy, responsible for the purchase of Western goods and technology for Northkorea. He escaped in 1994 and he still lives undercover in Austria. Yes, Grampa Kim and Daddy Kim had a large collection of premium automobiles, especially Benzes. In this book are some interesting details about it. P.S.The West German government never ever owned any W100-Benz. Those -also this one Link to "luxus.welt.de" - were all owned by Mercedes-Benz and rented from there by the government. -- Last edit: 2015-02-11 19:21:00 |

Maybe he is and it's just that we don't know yet. The stretch Mercedes will just be what he uses to get from A to B. -- Last edit: 2015-02-11 22:03:57 |
