60 minute BBC production filmed in Sheffield about a pigeon racer (the always watchable Michael Elphick, but his struggles with a Sheffield accent are quite funny) who is also a naughty boy with his women neighbours, hence the punning title. A strange thing - a bit like a BBC Play For Today or Screen Two episode, but seems to stand alone. Not really enough meat for a drama, not a comedy, no social/political comment (which is very odd for a mid-1980s production in a steelworkers street in from the Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire) - its only real merit is an unexpectedly interesting insight into the world of working-class pigeon racing. Can be seen on youtube, which was my source so captures are not high quality - can't find a better source. Rejects: - pigeon transporter pretending to be in France, maybe a Leyland - in real-life it would probably have been British to bring the birds over from Sheffield to the launch point - red saloon, smelt like a Marina, maybe Mk2 - Cortina Mk5 estate, X or Y plate - Toyota Silly Car ![]() |
