“You're leaving without me. That's not very nice.”

I've never read the novel, so I have no idea how it compares, but given the ending, all the hoopla about the triffids' noises and beating them seemed like a lot of pointless padding. Still reasonably entertaining if you check your brain at the door, although the climax is ridiculous, all but negating Eddie Izzard's fine work as the bad guy.

Upgraded to HD with several plates legible/visible and returning different years than those listed... I also added some additional vehicles.

I don't know what the IMDb editor in charge of adding foreign titles were on, but "A two-parter TV series (前後2部構成のテレビドラマ)" is clearly not the Japanese title of this show

Fixed it to what Wikipedia and Filmarks list the title as...

How does it compare to the 1962 version? I heard there's also an early-'80s version, too.

Yes, there's a 1963 Version which is a theatrical movie, and a 1981 version which is a 6-part, 3-hour mini series from the BBC. I haven't seen these two yet, so I can't offer my views, but a friend of mine, a longtime fan of the book and sci-fi in general, hated the movie and much preferred the 1981 series (which, mind, was made at the time the BBC would afford miniscule budgets to its productions, so the special effects are likely rather crude). From what I've read, the movie has little in common with the novel, the 2009 series has likewise taken many liberties and was adapted to modern sensibilities (ie. the triffids' oil saved the world from global warming...), but the 1981 version is said to be unusually faithful to the novel, so for the fans of the novel, at least, the 1981 version seems to be the one to see.

Incidentally, Amazon announced a new adaptation at some point in recent times, but it hasn't happened yet.
