A propaganda film made in Hollywood, directed by Jean Renoir,
with Charles Laughton, Maureen O'Hara, George Sanders, Walter Slezak, Kent Smith and (argh) Una O'Connor.

First rate propaganda, let's say it. Certainly not the best of Renoir's movies, but probably one of the most cleverly made propaganda films, though maybe not on very wealthy production basis.

Charles Laughton alternates over-the-top and restrain but is very effective in the end (I mean: very).

Maureen O'Hara is beautiful (if not such a good actress)

Slezak and Sanders are at their usual level: excellent.

Filmed on a Hollywood lot, I suppose they're are real German vehicles used, and that the FT17 (or an upgraded version) were belonging to the US Army (or National Guard).

Help me to find out!

(The score is quite interesting and it seems nobody noticed on IMDb that the main theme or motto used were the last bars of a very famous revolutionnary and patriotic French anthem, "Le chant du départ".)
