21 minute tribute to Wales taken from

British Transport Films Volume Two: See Britain By Train 2-dvd set. Odd presentation - the "plot" is a Welsh bloke going to Paddington station at night in black-and-white to post a letter home on the mail train, and getting all sentimental about his home country in colour segments. Can't find a copy online apart from a short extract which only shows the A30.

Some of the colour segments are excellent/unusual/quirky

- Telford's Menai road bridge to Anglesey on the A5 (London to Holyhead) - if I had a penny for every time we went across it when I were a lad, I'd have a fairly big pile of pennies

- Stevenson's Britannia rail bridge to Anglesey - fascinating for me at least because I can just about remember it in this form before it burnt down in 1970 and was massively rebuilt as a joint road/rail bridge - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_Bridge , http://menaibridges.co.uk/history/britannia-bridge/

.... it was guarded by cartoon-faced lions
[Image: menaih.jpg] [Image: menaig.jpg]
.... and this is the poignant bit - a group of kids accidentally set the Britannia Bridge alight when carrying a piece of burning paper as a lamp, and when they dropped it the wood and tar inside the tubular structure caught fire. Strong wind and the tubular shape helped the fire spread along the bridge and it burned for nine hours. No casualties but bridge hugely damaged. This is what was happening 10 years earlier
