I despise this movie with a burning passion. Worse still is that I had younger relatives who eat this stuff up. I dunno, maybe it's my bias but I just couldn't see the appeal of Disney Channel sitcoms outside of nostalgia. And even then a large majority of them were mediocre at best. Hanna Montana is not one of those. It's really awful, and this movie takes all those elements of what made the show bad and give it a bigger budget. I mean, I wasn't expecting La La Land or A Star is Born, but holy crap this movie is such a lousy musical. The movie is bad, but the songs are even worse. It doesn't even help that I can't stand country music at all, and I especially hate country pop artists like Taylor Swift and especially Miley Cyrus. I dunno, maybe it's just my personal bias and my seething hatred ever since being overly exposed to it as a little kid who doesn't care for any of this stuff. Also, "The Climb" sucks. It's the most sappy, melodramatic, overly-pretentious songs I have ever heard. Seriously, "The Reason" by Hoobastank was more tolerable than this. |
