Valley Metro in Phoenix, AZ never ordered a 35-foot Grumman Flxible 870 or it would've been listed in OMOT, Wikipedia, and CPTDB. Of all the 35-foot 870s listed in OMOT, I can only narrow it down to 8 bus companies: Cambria County Transportation Authority, Capital Area Transit (from Raleigh, NC), Greater Roanoke Transit Company, Metropolitan Transit Authority (from Wichita, KS) (now known as Wichita Transit), Pioneer Valley Tranportation Authority, Sheboygan Transit System, and South Coast Area Transit (now known as Gold Coast Transit). So far, I've seen a pic of a 35-foot 870 with the emergency amber lights on each side of the destination sign from South Coast Area Transit, but I'm not 100% certain if one of their buses is the same one above since I can't find any pics or videos of the 35-foot 870s from the other 7 bus companies. One thing I do know is that the bus above was NOT built in 1978, so the year should be removed. -- Last edit: 2011-08-21 22:22:53 |

The NYC MTA ordered them for all their bus divisions, and they were total pieces of junk with cracked A-Frames all over the tri-state area. Nice-looking buses, but they were as defective as a Ford Pinto. -- Last edit: 2011-12-22 05:56:24 |
