While the car may be a convertible, the term always used by Morris was "Tourer". So it should be a Morris Minor 1000 Tourer. |

You know, I'm not sure about this. IIRC only the Series MM ragtop (with removable plastic side curtains) was called the Tourer; all subsequent models with fixed rear side windows - Series II, 1000, ADO59 - were officially Convertibles (although the French would call them Coach Découvrable). |

Interesting -"rugged and frisky little British aristocrat" - sounds like Sarah Fergie. Traveller still has split windscreen unlike the others, and all versions are Morris 1000 with no Minor reference. |

The lettering, you can see on the double decker bus in the background, is actually available as a sticker - for the VW Typ2-fans. |

I missed the fact that 'Minor' was not used so Morris 1000 for the USA models, certainly after 1955 from the adverts. The split-screen model was probably the only model available at the time. Another advert has a drawing of a Station Wagon with one-piece windshield. Source: Morris Minor: 60 Years on the Road By Ray Newell. I have checked my source and accept that the word "convertible" was introduced to replace "tourer".............in 1951! |

On the subjcet of 'Minor' being used in the USA and Canada as a model name, I cannot be certain but I think the early MM models were referred to as Morris without a model name. So was the Minor the only Morris export at the time to North America? After the Minor became the Minor 1000 in the UK it looks like the USA/Canada car was called the Morris 1000. I cannot find any good pictures of USA or Canadian cars showing the badging on the side of the bonnet and rear boot that would add to the idea that 'Minor' was never used in North America. Can anyone please confirm or add to the model names being used? |
