Depending on the year and models, the fact that Renault was mentioned or not, the R was sometimes included sometimes omitted, so we do not include it. Same kind of problem exist with Alfa-Romeo's Alfa prefix. |

Renault used R8 (and R4) until 1965, then dropped R to give just 8 and 4 for 66+. So there was never eg R10 or R16. Interesting find as Bathurst rules for 65 specified a minimum number of imports for homologation - I think the figure was 250 - which suggests there should have been 250 RHD Gordinis delivered to Aus. This rule was significant for the Cortinas which won in 65 as the Cortina Lotus was not eligible to race here so they developed local GT500 variant as substitute. The alternative is that Renault Aus made 250 Gordini-ish R8s for local sale. Anyone able to check this further?? |

We were listing all with the same name to make things easier, but some preferred accuracy, so I let them manage that if they can do it ![]() |

It's slang (at least in Germany), to call the "numbered" Renault-models just with "R" and the ciphers. So here it's common to say "R25" oder "R21 Nevada" |

R8 Gordini in Aus info here - /vehicle_449469-Renault-R8-Gordini-R1134-1965.html . 1100 was imported with RHD in small numbers 1965-66, then local assembly of 1300 from April 67 to 69 (total 60 cars). This is Brian McGrath/David Frazer (both Aus drivers) in 1965 race, crashed on lap 42 of 130 after "broken wheel". -- Last edit: 2015-12-19 19:41:16 |
