I'd say small light so not Gordini (compare eg /vehicle_3603-Renault-8-Gordini-R1135-1967.html ), though is mentioned as Gordini on forums. Also a RHD Gordini would be a very interesting find. |

I know R1135 (Gordini 1300) has Four headlight, I'm talking about the Gordini 1100, R1134, with larger headlight than the regular R1130 |

I couldn't find a good R1134 photo on imcdb so used a R1135. But compare eg http://www.flickr.com/photos/triggerscarstuff/4551872938/ and http://renaultgordini.skyrock.com/532453612-RENAULT-8-GORDINI-1100.html - it's not a huge difference. Also our car has ordinary wheels - not definitive against Gordini but unusual. It's the RHD issue which is for me the biggest problem as the Gordini was never really sold in UK - there were a handful of conversions and a RHD Motor road test but they were incredibly rare; if one somehow went to Aus it would be a known car there. All R1134 were delivered with ordinary wheels and 1st gen R8 hubcap. 180mm headlight are bigger than standard and this one is fitted with 180mm. Anyway, I just mentionned that if it has some interest |

Seems Aus had 6-8 R1134 in an estimate from 2003 http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2897 (halfway down) at least one of which looks RHD - Link to "www.motorbase.com" - though no Cibie bumper sticker. So changing to R1134. Does anybody know anything about RHD 8 Gordinis? UK seems to have 13 8 Gordinis (presumably mixing 1134 and 1135 and LHD/RHD) - http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/renault_8_gordini . I have seen a couple of rare Gordini 8's at car shows in the past - were LHD, if I remember.howmanyleft.co.uk is a very interesting site, but like the site itself says - not all the records are accurate. True that a lot of cars are much rarer now (some old once-common Brit cars being marked down to less than 10 on the site), but remember that the site only tracks cars that are licensed or that have a SORN (Statutory off road notification) issued. There are actually quite a surprising amount of car owners in the UK that don't tax, renew or update their car info to the DVLA (or mark them down as SORN) and just leave their old cars in garages, barns or out in the back garden for a long period of time without driving them or notifying the government. So say if a certain car has been marked down as having only 20-25 examples left on the road in 2010 or 2011 for example, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there are that few of them, there could actually be more (at least in other countries if imported aftermarket), or less for that matter. Same with the DVLA vehicle enquiry - just because an old car's liability date was a long time ago, doesn't always mean it was scrapped (although it usually does), it may still be in somebody's garage - just without tax or insurance, etc. |

(1966) "R8 Gordini 1100: No major changes, limited imports." (1967) "8 Gordini 1300: (Type R1135) Locally assembled, introduced April 1967. Four headlights, 1255cc engine with five-speed all synchromesh gearbox, four wheel disc brakes with power assistance, laminated windscreen, twin fuel tanks (26 litres front, 38 litres rear) and crackle black paint finish on the dashboard. The initial two batches of ten cars each are painted Cannes Blue. Apparently the 8 Gordinis were assembled out of hours on weekends, in order not to disrupt production of the other vehicles. The 8 Gordini 1300 is officially available for sale to CAMS licence holders only." (1968) "8 Gordini 1300: Minor changes only through increased local content. Second two batches of ten cars each, painted Moyen Blue." (1969) "8 Gordini 1300: Minor changes only. Final two batches of ten cars in each batch, painted Daffodil Yellow, the final batch of 10 cars being available in early 1970." So Aus imported some 1100 Gordinis for 2 years from mid-65, then assembled 60 Gordini 1300s in batches - 20 in Cannes Blue (1967), 20 in Moyen Blue (1968) and 20 in Daffodil Yellow (1969-70). And we have a definite strand of evidence for RHD 8 Gordinis in both engine sizes. Postscript (1970) "... the 12 Gordini is expected to be released later on, once RHD problems are sorted through, with an expectation for five hundred 12 Gordinis to be locally produced by the close of 1971." But nothing seems to have resulted, and as far as I know nobody anywhere ever made any RHD 12 Gordinis .... |

Continued snippets on Gordinis in Aus: 1] - a Renault Australia factory team 8 Gordini won the 1970 Australian Rally Championship (beating amongst others the Holden Dealer Team) - Link to "www.shannons.com.au" 2] - 5 LHD 12 Gordinis were imported 71-72 with Renault France encouragement for a Renault Australia team attempt on the 72 Australian Rally Championship, but Holden Dealer Team cakewalked the series. Link to "www.shannons.com.au" So Aus interest in building 12 Gordinis as ^ (which would have been RHD) evaporated. (May need to register/sign in to get the full stories on www.shannons.com.au , but it seems a treasure trove of Aus info - I've only been scratching round for an hour but my cup runneth over already - how about the Vauxhall Cresta [PA]'s greatest motorsport achievement - winning the first Bathurst 500 in 1960??) |
