@AnimatronixX: somehow I smell Hearse conversion... - or am I wrong? |

it was supposedly a hearse -- Last edit: 2019-12-26 13:14:22 |

I don't think it got an own name as funeral. They are based on the KM. |

There were no special Hearse conversions in the DDR, usually they took the Barkas for that purpose. In Saxony there was one private coachbuilder (not Fleischer IIRC - @AnimatronixX:?), who made two Hearses on the basis of a Dacia 1300 Sedan (the 1300 Break was never sold in the DDR, neither the 1310 Break) |

Indeed, not Fleischer. This company was from my hometown in Thuringia and built just busses (on B1000, too, but really really rare). But Fleischer made all the seats for the Barkas. |

According Wiki https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Fleischer_(Unternehmen) Fleischer made until the nationalisation in 1972 (when in the Zone the last mid-sized private company owner were kicked in the ass) buses and afterwards seats and other car parts. It's said, that in the late 50ies Fleischer made a handful conversions on car chassis, even 7-seater, but there are no details. I rummage where to find the article with the note of the Dacia Hearse. It was for sure in the Oldtimer Markt some years ago, but I dunno, if it was in an article about Melkus, Fleischer -there was one mentioning- or about private owners of Western cars. About the last topic I remember articles about the only Porsche 911 turbo in the DDR, about a doctor(?) with a Citroën DS (he had a Renault Floride before) or about the -remarkable large- Opel fan scene in the DDR. P.S. @dsl, @cl82: in that magazine there was also an article about the last surviving Hillman Minx made for DDR -- Last edit: 2019-12-26 15:38:49 |

Even after '72 they built two own busses, the S4 and S5, but without changes until 1990. Not the quality as high-end busses made in GDR before. The small conversations were usually B1000 KB modified with for example Wartburg parts. But they took every chassis cab they could find from pre-war times. I know an Citroën-based Fleischer and an Opel-based one, both from the late 40s and 50s. But that should be enough not-Barkas-funeral-related-information for now. |

with "the small conversations" do you mean Hearses? In the Wiki-article is nothing written about Hearses. But Hearses in the DDR and the Eastern Block is an advanced topic. When AnimatronixX and me met the last time, we talked about that - and admitted, that the state of facts is quite difficult. |

No no, Fleischer made only busses, never hearses. And that's what I meant. Small busses or rather vans. I'm not at home now, othwerwise I would post the infos/pics from my book about busses and bus conversations made in GDR. The official name was more of a very suitable description: Barkas B1000 Bestattungswagen. @Mystery Man: This is your department, rather than mine: "Barkas B1000 KM Bestattungswagen" or "Barkas B1000 KM Bestattungswagen"? All of them. [Unfortunately not "Alfred"] E. Neumann Karosserieinstandsetzung of Spremberg built a Dacia 1300 funeral coach and as to my knowledge this was a one-off. The article you are referring to is the following one, but that should be enough not-Barkas-funeral-related-information for now: |

Looking at it, it's "Mad" enough. |

Since every basic version actually has its own name (ambulances, VoPo, too) I prefer the 'B1000 KM Bestattungswagen' for that cases. But for not on KA, KM, KB... based versions B1000 special designation would be the best way to list. |

This type of reg. plate lighting had to be introduced in 1985. From this year are cars with old and new one. |
