According to my sources, the "Emergency!"-Suburbans were built by National Custom Coaches. |
◊ 2009-12-09 19:12 |
That is another Stoner modification (dual cab-top Federal Beacon-Rays and a single scene light are the big clues.) I started my career in a National. The roof lines were sharper, the primary light was a single, 4-beam, mounted in the roof center, with dual side and scene lights. (My rig also had a 454 V-8 with Holley 4-Bbl. carb in it. It could FLY.) Many of the early Emergency episodes just hired ambulances from Goodhew Ambulance in Riverside, CA. They are still in business. |

These 1967-1972 Suburban high-top ambulances are such cool rigs!!! I'd LOVE to find a used one in good condition and fix it up, If it has a small block 327 in it, I'd put in either a 454 or 502 big block with multiport fuel injection and put a good sounding set of headers with 4 inch Flowmaster or Magnaflow mufflers, Then I'd add a modern Federal Signal red/white lightbar as well as LED secondary warning lights on the front, sides and rear, I'd also put in a modern sound system with iPod/MP3 player capability as well as upgrade the air conditioning system. I'd also have power windows and locks installed as well as tinted glass all around, I'd also put in 10 way power heated leather Recaro bucket seats in the cab area as well as cruise control and heated power outside rearview mirrors. What a SWEET ride that would be!!! |

Trailpatrol, Could your rig do 120-130 mph? I bet it probably could!! I once had my 454 powered 36 foot motorhome up to 117 once!!! |

According to Randolph Mantooth in the 50th Anniversary Special, producer R. A. Cinader hated the Suburbans because the design made setting up interior shots infuriatingly difficult. So one got wrecked. -- Last edit: 2023-02-05 16:12:49 |
