I had always wondered whether the designer of 2007 Renault Twingo II Phase One was somehow inspired by this generation Minica.

Or is it just me? 🤔

Well, I never noticed that and now I can't unsee it. Kind of ironic, given the recent Mitsubishi-Renault partnership...

What else is similar than the rear hatch handle and the silver color really? I doubt Renault wanted to get inspired by a 9 year old obscure Japanese car back then.

The curved boot lid? tail lights?

It's just a thought.

And besides, why not?
For example, the Soviets directly took the design of this 1984+ Minica

And incorporated it to their own 1988+ Lada Oka

"It must be a copy because the Soviets did it too" isn't a solid reason. :p

Where did I say Twingo was a direct "copy" of a Minica? I just gave an example on how an "obscure" kei-car helped to inspire designers from a different country to create their own kei-car (the Oka), that's it :p

Edit: for the sake of ending this little argument, let's agree that the 2 cars don't look similar. It was just a spontaneous thought, because I thought I saw similarities in the boot lid and tail lights. Peace ;)

There are always such rumours and conspiraction theories. Usually told by the inferior rival.
So since decades convinced DDR-nostalgists assert, that the Wartburg 355 prototype
https://motorostalgie.de/hersteller/prototypen/prototypen-aus-eisenach
was the pattern for the VW Golf I and Volkswagen somehow has stolen the blueprints :D

And don't forget the polish Beskid 106 prototype that someone is deperate to prove is the inspiration for the first gen. Renalt Twingo. :D
