Round turning lights in front bumper = 1970 Monte Carlo (I think this must be the very rare "Garbidge Limited Edition" ![]() |

1970 Chevy Monte Carlo |
◊ 2006-06-18 03:51 |
You've got three people who agree that this is a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and two who agree that it's from 1970. I say it's unanimous. |

Laugh all you want, I think it's pretty cool that it's all go and no show. ![]() |

The 11 Monte Carlos were a mix of 70,71,&72s, All headlight bezels and bumpers were 1970, and grills were 1971s. |

Fantastic chase scene that is so much better than anything featured in the first 2 movies. |
◊ 2006-09-05 15:57 |
Such a wicked car. I thought though that couldn't it be the rare SS Monte Carlo? Those cars never actually had SS badges on them, but had the big 454cid engines. Maybe that's why the Viper couldn't beat it. |
◊ 2006-10-21 06:39 |
ERTL has released a 1:18 scale version of the movie car. Why you'd want that instead of something in a bit better condition (ie. one with a proper, matching paint job :P) I don't know... |

Either someone who likes cars with "character," or someone who's too big a fan of the Fast and the Furious series. |
◊ 2006-10-31 22:45 |
Why use the picture of the front end? |

Why not ? |

is the hood just grey primer or is that a sign of somthing lurking under the hood? |
◊ 2006-11-27 02:06 |
i dont remember the exact number, but i read an article that was co-written by the technical director of the movie, and that car's engine is over 600cid. |
◊ 2006-12-29 03:00 |
it has a 632ci 900hp motor. |
◊ 2007-01-31 02:15 |
B-u-ll-shi-t no way 900hp but the best car in the film....the good old quarter mile racing..... |
◊ 2007-01-31 02:16 |
but the engine was from "YENKO"respect.... |

When i saw this car, I thought it was like a "work in progress". But now i know that it has a matte paint job. |
◊ 2007-04-07 07:24 |
I love the representation this car (and the parts of the movie it is in) represent. good old fashioned grassroots tuning versus rich-boy tuning where they go to a shop and have it done. best summed up by the line "Congradulations, you can read a manual." |
◊ 2007-04-24 00:25 |
its engine is Merlin Limited Edition by www.theengineshop.com |

◊ 2007-04-25 10:11 |
I dont know about that man, I pauesd it and looked closley at those tires for a few minutes and they sure look like slicks to me. |
◊ 2007-04-30 06:09 |
What a shame they f'ed it up. |
◊ 2007-04-30 06:34 |
She comes in one color and one color only. Bitchin'. i just looked up that 632. For the love of god, somebody keep me away from my checkbook for a while! I wonder if when they crushed it they salvaged that engine? *Devious laugh* |
◊ 2007-05-10 00:02 |
The engine on this car was a nitrous injected 509, not a 632. Hot Rod Magazine reviewed this car. (Ands unfortunately blew the 509 sky high in the testing. It now houses a 454, but still has the hot rodded transmission. This following information was taken from the Volo Auto Museum where the car now resides. "FOR THE MOVIE IT HAD A NITROuS INJECTED 509 CUBIC INCH ENGINE BACKED BY A LAKEWOOD BELLHOUSING, HAYES CLUTCH, AND A RICHMOND T-10 FOUR-SPEED TRANS THAT FED THROUGH A WENCO DRIVESHAFT TO A MOSER 12-BOLT REAREND WITH SPOOLS AND 4.88 GEARS." |
◊ 2007-05-16 18:18 |
i agree my friend. |
◊ 2007-05-18 10:14 |
So, they take valve covers from 632? |
◊ 2007-05-18 16:47 |
in the credits they "says thanks" for Bill Mitchell Hardcore Engines, BTW |
◊ 2007-06-09 18:07 |
Hey everyone im new to the board. All the monte carlos in this film had no nitrous.they were 350's in the roll over cars.509 ci in one of the main stunt cars. The hero car had a 572 hardcore with a richmond 4 speed.the 509 had richmond 4 speed too.The 350 cars had autos.Actually there was 3 350 powered monte carlos.2 or 3 bb powered monte carlos.there was a total of 9 monte carlos built for the flim. Travis F |
◊ 2007-07-17 06:30 |
I found on IMDB goofs page, that engine is chromed in garage scene, but in rollover scene, it's orange. Looks like it is solution.... |
◊ 2007-08-13 19:27 |
your right it had hard compound road race slicks |
◊ 2007-08-13 19:31 |
the valve covers said hardcore 454 it was a small block, look at the bolt battern on the valve covers two bolts on top two on the bottom small block, the big block chevy valve covers have 4 bolts on the botoom and 3 on the top |
◊ 2007-08-20 21:46 |
If you pause it at 2:10 you can clearly see the valve covers say HARDCORE 632. You can also see that it does have 3 bolts on the top. This is a direct quote from edmunds inside line, "The valve covers are a fraud, but there are 509 cubic inches of Bill Mitchell crate motor underneath them, rated at 560 hp. The inner fenders were omitted to accommodate the wide Goodyear stock-car slicks." Here is the link if you want to read it yourself. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=115634 -- Last edit: 2007-08-20 21:47:23 |
◊ 2007-08-24 21:56 |
your right i just looked again and i was mistaken i only saw two bolts on the top and bottom but i guess i just overlooked the other three and i thought it said 454 another human error |

best car in the series of movies, and its primered, so what? stop bitching primer cars are usually way more bad ass than painted ones |
◊ 2009-01-12 02:14 |
btw, it has 4 slicks because its supposed to be an oldskool nascar/circle track car |
◊ 2009-02-08 21:58 |
co-sign. it might not be primered. it might just be matte paint |
◊ 2009-02-23 04:11 |
I think YOUR vehicle belongs in the "Garbidge Limited Edition." This car is a good car. If I owned one i'd treat it like gold. |
◊ 2009-03-12 20:57 |
If I remember correctly, the tires are actually Nascar tires. They were put on with the outside facing in so that they appeared like blank slicks. |
◊ 2009-03-28 04:15 |
the engine is a 572 cubic inch bill mitchel big block and for the hood,i suppose he needed a new one for that one big ass engine,he proabably just found it at a junkyard, and as it seems its now show, all go |

◊ 2009-04-15 21:47 |
in the film the car goes through a partially steel house and what looks like a concrete set of steps is that possible. also did ne1 see the rings of paint on the side of it. they look like the audi logo. |

ah...grey primer on the hood i love you. not that id put a primered hood on my car though |
◊ 2009-09-02 22:44 |
it is a 1970 monte carlo with a bill mitchell 632 cube big block, holley dominator 1050 carb, nitrous, putting out a dyno'd 800 horses, 775 lb-ft torque, richmond t-10 4spd tranny. they used cheap junkyard parts for the body from 70, 71 and 72. fiberglass hood, but a fully custom suspension to put tires to pavement. hope this explains it well. |
◊ 2009-10-26 04:30 |
It's not paint It is rub marks from the tires of the Viper |

was thinking about buying this car from the movie for fun but looked at it and it's huge!!! |
◊ 2011-10-06 19:00 |
Man, I love this car... I was a little skeptical of Tokyo Drift when it came out, thinking it looked like there would be no muscle being a movie set in Tokyo, but then at the beginning when I saw this car then the "Hardcore 632" valve covers, I was just sucked in. Obviously if it were a real Hardcore 632 it would have smoked the Viper in a heartbeat, regardless of the 4 speed tranny. Honestly, I think a prelude to this movie would be really cool, showing us some of his races in the past and how the heck he came to get a 632 cubic inch Bill Mitchell crate engine on a highschooler's budget. |
◊ 2012-01-15 11:57 |
what i think is amusing is that the jock still wanted to race him even though he cud see the car had slicks and sounded like a beast |
◊ 2012-04-06 19:03 |
The guy said his viper goes 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds. It actually goes in 4.0 secs, so he dissed his own car, and obviously doesn't have any knowledge of whats going on under his or seans hood. and either way, the monte carlo is faster ![]() |
◊ 2012-04-14 19:26 |
Nice |
◊ 2012-05-30 15:27 |
Where is it now? .... at www.FastandFurious.US one of the actual stunt cars from the movie has been given a new life. Removed from storage and displays to be driven and shown on the street! No BS this is real. |

As we all can see, I think the transmission on the Monte Carlo is manual. When it flipped and rolled after crossing the finish line, I was saying to myself "this is why I prefer automatic transmission." I'd never get used to manual transmission. For a while a long time ago, I used to think that manual transmission is for workaholics (people who feel like they NEED to work); for people who want to keep moving their bodies (mainly their arms), even while driving. To set the record straight, I don't say/think that anymore. The reason why I used to think that is because I know the difference between the transmissions. In automatic, all you do is push down on the gas pedal, and the car does the rest, whereas in manual, you have to 1) push down on the gas, 2) release the gas, 3) push down on the clutch, 4) move the stick to change gears, 5) release the clutch, and 6) repeat step 1. Also in automatic, when you have to slow down, you don't have to worry about the specific gear to put the car in after slowing down. However, you DO have to in manual. Like say if you're in fifth gear and you have to slow down and get in second gear. When moving the stick, I don't know if you have to move the stick from fifth to fourth, then to third, and then to second, or move the stick from fifth to second without shifting to fourth and third. And also, if you have nitrous oxide in your car (which nobody does in reality; I know that), when you push the NOS button in a car with manual transmission, the quick increase in speed might make you have to shift gears faster in manual than when you don't use NOS, but you don't have to worry about a thing with the NOS in automatic. If 2 cars raced each other, and everything on both cars is the exact same as each other (and I mean EVERYHING; the same model year, the same make, the same model, the same tire width and height, the same performance parts, the same... everything), but if the one and only difference would be that one car had automatic transmission and the other car had manual, I would say that the car with automatic transmission would have the better chance of winning than the one with manual. All I'm saying is that I would choose automatic transmission every day; every time. That's just my opinion. |
◊ 2013-07-09 17:30 |
^ if you see car specs published by the companies themselves the manual has quicker acceleration, higher top speed and lower fuel consumption plus with automatic you have to keep your foot on the gas cos if you take it off car slows down quickly , on the manual you just let it in high gear and it slows down much much less , very nice if you drive on highways cos you can relax your foot much more -- Last edit: 2013-07-09 17:33:35 |
◊ 2013-07-15 00:10 |
Really. I guess I was only focusing on the disadvantages. But even I know that I can't move on to a car with manual yet. I only got my license back in October, 2012. But I'm ALWAYS going to stick with automatic. |
◊ 2013-07-19 14:30 |
First off, the valve covers are a lie. They DID build one wirh a 572 crate engine and some with 509's The car is super triple badass, and was supposed to be based on old school nascar styling and performance with those slicks especially. Link to "www.youtube.com" |
◊ 2015-07-15 08:22 |
Even though I am a hardcore Mopar Fan, having that Monte Carlo with a 572 Chevrolet- or even better... A supercharged Holden V8 would be my dream! |

I would take this over that Viper any day, and he skidded because he's got dragstrip tires |
