Such a wicked car. I thought though that couldn't it be the rare SS Monte Carlo? Those cars never actually had SS badges on them, but had the big 454cid engines. Maybe that's why the Viper couldn't beat it.

ERTL has released a 1:18 scale version of the movie car.

The engine on this car was a nitrous injected 509, not a 632. Hot Rod Magazine reviewed this car. (Ands unfortunately blew the 509 sky high in the testing. It now houses a 454, but still has the hot rodded transmission.

This following information was taken from the Volo Auto Museum where the car now resides.

"FOR THE MOVIE IT HAD A NITROuS INJECTED 509 CUBIC INCH ENGINE BACKED BY A LAKEWOOD BELLHOUSING, HAYES CLUTCH, AND A RICHMOND T-10 FOUR-SPEED TRANS THAT FED THROUGH A WENCO DRIVESHAFT TO A MOSER 12-BOLT REAREND WITH SPOOLS AND 4.88 GEARS."

If you pause it at 2:10 you can clearly see the valve covers say HARDCORE 632. You can also see that it does have 3 bolts on the top.

This is a direct quote from edmunds inside line,

"The valve covers are a fraud, but there are 509 cubic inches of Bill Mitchell crate motor underneath them, rated at 560 hp. The inner fenders were omitted to accommodate the wide Goodyear stock-car slicks."

Man, I love this car... I was a little skeptical of Tokyo Drift when it came out, thinking it looked like there would be no muscle being a movie set in Tokyo, but then at the beginning when I saw this car then the "Hardcore 632" valve covers, I was just sucked in. Obviously if it were a real Hardcore 632 it would have smoked the Viper in a heartbeat, regardless of the 4 speed tranny. Honestly, I think a prelude to this movie would be really cool, showing us some of his races in the past and how the heck he came to get a 632 cubic inch Bill Mitchell crate engine on a highschooler's budget.

As we all can see, I think the transmission on the Monte Carlo is manual. When it flipped and rolled after crossing the finish line, I was saying to myself "this is why I prefer automatic transmission." I'd never get used to manual transmission. For a while a long time ago, I used to think that manual transmission is for workaholics (people who feel like they NEED to work); for people who want to keep moving their bodies (mainly their arms), even while driving. To set the record straight, I don't say/think that anymore. The reason why I used to think that is because I know the difference between the transmissions. In automatic, all you do is push down on the gas pedal, and the car does the rest, whereas in manual, you have to 1) push down on the gas, 2) release the gas, 3) push down on the clutch, 4) move the stick to change gears, 5) release the clutch, and 6) repeat step 1. Also in automatic, when you have to slow down, you don't have to worry about the specific gear to put the car in after slowing down. However, you DO have to in manual. Like say if you're in fifth gear and you have to slow down and get in second gear. When moving the stick, I don't know if you have to move the stick from fifth to fourth, then to third, and then to second, or move the stick from fifth to second without shifting to fourth and third. And also, if you have nitrous oxide in your car (which nobody does in reality; I know that), when you push the NOS button in a car with manual transmission, the quick increase in speed might make you have to shift gears faster in manual than when you don't use NOS, but you don't have to worry about a thing with the NOS in automatic. If 2 cars raced each other, and everything on both cars is the exact same as each other (and I mean EVERYHING; the same model year, the same make, the same model, the same tire width and height, the same performance parts, the same... everything), but if the one and only difference would be that one car had automatic transmission and the other car had manual, I would say that the car with automatic transmission would have the better chance of winning than the one with manual. All I'm saying is that I would choose automatic transmission every day; every time. That's just my opinion.

mike962 DE

^

if you see car specs published by the companies themselves the manual has quicker acceleration, higher top speed and lower fuel consumption

plus with automatic you have to keep your foot on the gas cos if you take it off car slows down quickly , on the manual you just let it in high gear and it slows down much much less , very nice if you drive on highways cos you can relax your foot much more

Really. I guess I was only focusing on the disadvantages. But even I know that I can't move on to a car with manual yet. I only got my license back in October, 2012. But I'm ALWAYS going to stick with automatic.
