Most of these cars are not usual and rather rare (203 convertible, coupe, Vauxhall, Panhard too). There are also yellow 2CV and Floride, but these two are simply nice. ;)

Of course, you're right to watch french cinema of that era, there are many good cineast, and Alain Resnais is not the worst :)

The only reason why I do not list more French films of that period is that most of them is already listed. :D
Alain Resnais is indeed... well it is some not easy experience to watch his films ;) , but they are worth it, even for the atmosphere.
