JB wrote The film was originally commissioned by France 2, and aired on French television in two 90-minute episodes in September 2008. After watching it, Luc Besson acquires the rights to the film and has a new two-hour editing done. Not very common in the French audiovisual environment, the film is released three months before its television release.
The first part of the TV movie, which aired on September 30, 2008, attracted 4,266,000 viewers (second part aired on October 1, 2008).
The television version received the 2009 Crystal Globe for Best TV Movie.
